Malta’s startup ecosystem has gained another important building block 🚀

The launch of the EIT Regional Innovation Booster (RIB) by Xjenza Malta in collaboration with the EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology creates a new pathway for Maltese startups and SMEs to scale internationally, access funding, and strengthen their growth journey.

As part of the launch, MIF President Johan Zammit moderated a panel about the impact of these initiatives on Malta’s startup ecosystem.

With Malta becoming the second country to join this initiative, RIB connects local innovators to wider European networks, mentorship, and internationalisation opportunities.

Alongside RIB, the launch of the Prototype to Minimum Viable Product (P2M) Scheme and Loan Assistance Programme further strengthens Malta’s go-to-market landscape - helping bridge the gap from validation to MVP to international scale.

Together, these initiatives represent practical progress toward a stronger, more connected innovation ecosystem.

Building a stronger National Innovation Ecosystem begins with clear understanding.

An Innovation Observatory is one of its practical building blocks - a dedicated entity that brings together people, processes, and data to monitor, analyse, and report on innovation activity.

Through performance tracking, benchmarking, sector insights, and stakeholder engagement, it helps identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities while supporting smarter policy, stronger strategy, and better long-term ecosystem alignment.
