GAL XLOKK Foundation The GAL XLOKK Foundation is one of the Local Action Groups which have been chosen to implement the LEADER programme for Malta (2014-2020)

The GAL XLOKK Foundation is one of the Local Action Groups which have been chosen to implement the EU LEADER programme for Malta in the Xlokk territory. The aim of the Foundation is to help improve the quality of life and economic prosperity in the South-East rural areas in Malta. Seventeen (17) Rural localities fall under the Xlokk territory. These are situated along the south coast and extend fr

om west to east and to the centre of the island. Although one can say that many planning issues are common to the whole island, the Xlokk territory has a number of specific features/ needs which need to be reflected into different targeted measures. These localities can be divided into:

- Coastal localities:

Qrendi,
Marsaskala,
Marsaxlokk,
Birżebbuga,
Żurrieq,
Kalkara
Xgħajra

- Inland localities:

Ħal Ghaxaq,
Ħal Qormi,
Gudja,
Ħal Kirkop,
Ħal Luqa,
Mqabba,
Żejtun,
Ħal Safi,
Santa Lucija,
Ħaż Żabbar

These seventeen localities are included in the National Statistics Office (NSO)’s Southern & Northern Harbour and South Eastern district classifications (majority of localities fall under this latter district). The localities making up these three districts are:

• Southern Harbour District – Ħaż Żabbar, Kalkara, Luqa, Santa Luċija, Xgħajra
• Northern Harbour District – Qormi
• South Eastern District – Żejtun, Birżebbuġa, Gudja, Ħal Għaxaq, Kirkop, Marsascala, Marsaxlokk, Mqabba, Qrendi, Ħal Safi, Żurrieq

The Xlokk localities represent a total population of 111,196 people (26% of total Malta population) and an area of c. 71km² (total Malta: 246km2). The territory supports important national infrastructures, such as the Malta International Airport, the Malta Freeport and many industrial estates such as the Bulebel, Ħal Far and Ħal Luqa Industrial estates.

🇲🇹Colours of Change

Hekk kif wasalna lejn tmiem din is-sena, il-Fondazzjoni tagħna kburija li tniedi pass importanti ieħor: l-identità u l-immaġni promozzjonali aġġornata tagħna.

Matul l-aħħar xhur, ħdimna b’mod intens wara l-kwinti biex nimmodernizzaw l-identità tagħna. Illum, b’ħerqa kbira, qed inżvelaw il-logo l-ġdid tagħna: simbolu frisk u kontemporanju li jirrifletti min aħna u l-komunitajiet li nirrappreżentaw.

Il-logo tagħna huwa mibni fuq tliet elementi ewlenin, li kull wieħed minnhom jirrappreżenta s-17-il lokalità li jiffurmaw it-territorju tax-Xlokk:

🔵 Il-Bażi Blu
Tissimbolizza l-lokalitajiet kostali tagħna: Qrendi, Żurrieq, Birżebbuġia, Marsaxlokk, Marsascala, Xgħajra u Kalkara.

🟢 Is-Sezzjoni Ħadra
Tirrappreżenta l-komunitajiet rurali tagħna: Luqa, Mqabba, Kirkop, Safi, Gudja, Santa Luċija u Għaxaq.

👑 Il-Kuruna
Tirrikonoxxi t-tliet lokalitajiet li ngħataw it-titlu nobbli ta’ “Città” mill-Kavallieri: Żejtun, Qormi u Żabbar.

Din l-identità ġdida timmarka kapitlu frisk għall-Fondazzjoni tagħna, wieħed imsaħħaħ bl-għaqda, il-wirt u l-progress.

🎉 Aktar aġġornamenti eċċitanti ġejjin hekk kif inkomplu nibnu l-futur flimkien.

🇬🇧Colours of Change

As we approach the end of this year, our Foundation is proud to launch a new milestone: our refreshed branding and promotional image.

Over the past months, we have been working hard behind the scenes to modernise our identity. Today, we are excited to reveal our new logo: a fresh, contemporary symbol that reflects who we are and the communities we represent.

Our logo is built on three core elements, each representing the 17 localities that make up the Xlokk territory:

🔵 The Blue Base
Symbolising our coastal localities: Qrendi, Żurrieq, Birżebbuġia, Marsaxlokk, Marsascala, Xgħajra, and Kalkara.

🟢 The Green Section
Representing our rural communities: Luqa, Mqabba, Kirkop, Safi, Gudja, Santa Luċija, and Għaxaq.

👑 The Crown
Honouring the three localities granted the noble title of "Città" by the Knights: Żejtun, Qormi, and Żabbar.

This new identity marks a fresh chapter for our Foundation , one rooted in unity, heritage, and progress.

🎉More exciting updates are on the way as we continue shaping the future together.
