Public Lecture Alert 📣

The inaugural lecture in the Archaeology Society Malta's 2026-27 lecture series kicks off with something different. In collaboration with the Microvertebrate Working Group Meeting of the International Council for Archaeozoology, members are invited to attend the keynote lecture by Dr Andrzej Aleksander Romaniuk entitled: "The End of a Long Road – Closing a Decade of Archaeological Research on Micromammals in the Orkney Islands"

This presentation will take place on the 9th of September at 18.30. Importantly please note that the location for this talk is the Sala Pietru Pawl Saydon (aka ALT) at the University of Malta.

We are devastated by the tragic death of Charlotte Zammit, a 44-year-old woman whose life was taken in our community.

We extend our deepest condolences to Charlotte’s family, her loved ones, and everyone affected by this tragedy.

Charlotte’s life mattered. Yet she now joins an unacceptable list of women in Malta whose lives have been cut short by domestic and gender-based violence.

This is not an isolated tragedy. It is a painful reminder of the violence that women continue to face, and of the urgent need for a society where every woman can live without fear.

Charlotte deserves justice. Her death must strengthen our resolve to demand meaningful action, accountability, and lasting change in the fight against domestic and gender-based violence.

Our grief must fuel more urgency to protect the women in our lives and demand justice for women like Charlotte.

🕰 20 Years. Countless Discoveries. One Story to Tell.

This photo shows a small ceramic cup with a handle, discovered in Rabat, half submerged in soil. Archaeologists dated this find, and the context, to the Bronze Age.

Journey through 20 years of discoveries from Malta’s western region, spanning the Prehistoric, Punic, Roman, and Medieval periods, in our upcoming lecture series inspired by ‘The Superintendence of Cultural Heritage: 20 Years of Discoveries (2003–2022)’.
