Second Chance Horse Rescue

Second Chance Horse Rescue The aim of Second Chance Horse Rescue is to help retired racehorses on their journey beyond racing.

Horses unlikely to be rehomed remain in our lifelong sanctuary, while younger and healthier horses are carefully matched with forever homes across the UK

We don’t usually put things like this up but this has genuinely become too much of a struggle 🥺

When we post that we have horses currently available for adoption and ask interested people to fill in an application form, the form is there because you are actually interested in adopting a horse.

Our UK reps spend their time going through every application, contacting applicants and arranging calls only to increasingly receive replies like “No thank you, I’m just browsing”

We completely understand that circumstances change or that after applying someone may decide it isn’t the right time but filling in an adoption application when you have no intention of adopting in the first place creates unnecessary work for a very small team that already has enough on its plate.

Please browse our posts, follow the horses, ask questions and enjoy their updates as much as you like. But please only complete an adoption form when you are genuinely considering offering one of our horses a home 🙏🏼

Every hour our team spends chasing applications that were never serious is an hour we could be spending finding homes for horses that actually need them and the same hour our UK team would have rather spent with their family.

It is such a struggle constantly receiving this each and every day. Unless you do not seriously want to adopt a specific, have the transport fee ready & a stable ready, then do not apply. If you have a question or wanted to know more about a specific horse or in general either message on facebook or comment on a post.

Thanks and regards,
A very tired team who are becoming increasingly exhausted from dealing with daily time wasters 😩

Dencos P. Galore now beautifully known as Dolly has safely landed in her new home! 🥹🇬🇧❤️

Dolly travelled from Malta to the UK on the very same truck as another one of our horses Jo Grandson in August. They had already met each other back in Malta, made that huge journey across Europe together and eventually went their separate ways to begin their new lives ❤️ Little did we know their story together wasn’t quite finished 🥹 Jo’s wonderful new family felt that he might need a friend and when they saw our beautiful Dolly waiting at SCHR UK Base they decided to give her a home too ❤️

So after meeting in Malta, travelling thousands of kilometres together on the same truck and both starting completely new lives in the UK, Dolly & Jo have somehow found their way back to each other again 🇲🇹➡️🇬🇧

Sometimes you really do have to believe that everything happens for a reason 🥹❤️

Mr. Pango taking his zoomies seriously because apparently being ridiculously handsome isn’t enough for him 🙄🤣💨

Genuinely though can’t believe this boy still hasn’t found a home! 🥹❤️ We know we always find it ridiculously difficult to rehome Thoroughbreds, especially when they are only around 14hh and young such as Pango who is 3 years old but with Mr. Pango’s stunning looks and personality we really thought it wouldn’t be this hard! 🙈

He is still such a baby with his whole life ahead of him and for now he seems perfectly happy spending his days showing us just how fast those little legs can go 🤣💨

Surely Mr. Pango’s person is out there somewhere! 🥹🥹❤️

We LOVE it when our horses get their zoomies! ❤️🥹 Literally one of our favourite things to see. Happy horses just being horses 🐎💨

We still can’t quite understand how this beautiful baby girl hasn’t found her home yet 🥲 We have always believed though that the right home comes at the right time. Hopefully hers is just around the corner🤞🏻❤️

On another note tomorrow we might introduce you to more adoptions and next week we are going to reveal some happy news that has happened at the yard. Hoping for some cooler weather soon so both us AND the horses can finally start feeling a little more alive again and we can keep you all on track on what’s happening back here 🙈

Goodnight everyone xx

Hope everyone’s having a great evening so far except our horses who have all just been dewormed! 🤣💉🐴

We always make sure to keep on top of deworming especially throughout the summer months. Usually to keep costs down we prioritise deworming our permanent sanctuary residents who are the horses who will spend the rest of their lives with us ❤️

This time though we decided we wanted to get every single horse currently on the yard done so it’s fair on everyone including those available for rehoming 🙈 We definitely aren’t saying we suddenly have money to spare 🤣 but sometimes these things simply need to be done.

So we have spent the last few hours going from stable to stable trying to catch everyone and getting covered in dewormer and praying nobody decides to cause any further trouble tonight 😂🙈
