My name is Shanice Borg, and I am a student currently reading for a Master of Psychology in Clinical Psychology at the University of Malta. As part of this course, I am carrying out a research study titled ‘The Lived Experiences of Maltese Adults Bereaved by a Sibling’s Suicide,’ which is being carried out under the supervision of Dr. Marta Sant.
The aim of this study is to explore how Maltese adults experience the loss of a sibling to su***de.
The study seeks to understand how individuals make sense of this loss, how the sibling relationship shapes their bereavement, and how they perceive and access support following their sibling’s death. By examining these elements, the study aims to gain a clearer understanding of the psychological and relational impact of sibling su***de.
Your participation in this study will provide valuable insight into the experiences, support needs and challenges faced by bereaved siblings and may help inform future research, professional practice, and the development of more appropriate support services for individuals affected by su***de in Malta.
Any data collected from this research will be used solely for purposes of this study.
I am looking to recruit participants who:
• Are 18 years of age or older
• Are Maltese adults
• Have experienced the loss of a sibling to su***de, and the death must have occurred at least 24 months ago.
Participants who feel that taking part in this study may cause them significant emotional distress, are encouraged to consider whether participation is appropriate for them at this time.
In addition, individuals who are currently receiving psychiatric care or who are experiencing significant psychological distress that may affect their ability to participate safely are asked not to take part in this study. These safeguards are in place to protect participant wellbeing and ensure safe participation.
Participants will be invited to take part in a one-to-one, face-to-face interview lasting approximately 45–60 minutes, scheduled at a convenient time and location of their choice in a private and confidential setting. Interviews can be held in Maltese and/or English, based on one’s preference. With consent, interviews will be audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim, and only data relevant to the study will be collected. All data will be pseudonymised, with any identifying information altered or removed to protect participant confidentiality.
Should you wish to participate in this study or would like more detailed information, kindly contact me by email on [email protected] or via my mobile number on 79992171.
You can also contact my dissertation supervisor, Dr. Marta Sant, by email on [email protected] or via telephone number on 23402312.
Thank you for your time and support in considering this request.
