Highlights of what was an incredible weekend in Guimarães, Portugal 🇵🇹💚❤️

Our project reached a major milestone last weekend as the three partners - ondamarela from 🇵🇹, VOCA Choir from 🇲🇹 and Voces Blancas del Nalón 🇪🇸 - all met in the beautiful city of Guimarães for ENSEMBLE's Music and Mental Health Concert and Final Concert, where we finally launched "I Hear You", our original composition to raise awareness on mental health and fight the taboo associated with 🧠🫶🎶

And that's a wrap! Our Music and Mental Health Conference came to a close yesterday evening with an amazing choir workshop, led by Tim Steiner and Ricardo Baptista, for choir members to learn parts of our original song 🎶❤️

After some fantastic performances delivered by our two choir partners, VOCA Choir from Malta 🇲🇹 and Voces Blancas del Nalón from Spain 🇪🇸, it was finally time to launch our original composition written for SATB Choir - "I Hear You". An emotional moment for all involved 🥹

And what a brilliant start to our Music & Mental Health Conference at the beautiful Sociedade Martins Sarmento in Guimarães, Portugal 🇵🇹😁

Our two choirs, VOCA Choir and Voces Blancas del Nalón started the day with an excellent circle singing workshop delivered by the amazing Juan Ospina and Sofia Ribeiro 😍 The room was full of energy and beautiful music improvised on the spot by our participants 🎶😁

After a hearthy lunch in the wonderful gardens of the Sociedade Martins Sarmento, our conference continued with an introductory speech delivered by Simone Inguanez from the Arts Council Malta discussing the Maltese take on health and the arts 🇲🇹

This was followed by the screening of a wonderful documentary prepared by the incredible Vasco Mendes summarising ENSEMBLE's almost two-year journey 🎞🎦

A panel, led by Ricardo Baptista and consisting of Tim Steiner, Inês Homem de Melo, Janete Cosra Ruiz and Carlos Correia, then gave some great insights into the relationship between mental health and music 🎶🧠

The conference ended with the sharing of the song "I Hear You" for the very first time with the audience present. An emotional end to a successful first day here in Guimarães! 🫶🥹

The moment the VOCA Choir members met the Voces Blancas del Nalón participants and the ondamarela team for the first time after ENSEMBLE kicked off back in October 2024 🙏 It was a moment of shared joy! ❤️ The choirs got to discover the city of Guimarães and shared a traditional Portuguese lunch, ahead of a busy weekend with the Music and Mental Health Conference and Concert 😁🇵🇹🇪🇸🇲🇹

The conference will involve a debate on the link between music and mental health by experts and professionals in the field on Saturday, together with a documentary on the project by the amazing Vasco Mendes, as well as a concert launching the original song composed as part of the project which will then be disseminated all over Europe.

It would be an absolute honour to have you with us to celebrate such an important milestone of the project in order and to showcase the work we have carried out for the project so far! 😁❤️🙏
