bBrave representatives had the pleasure of meeting Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, in Brussels.

Outside the House of European History , we presented him with a symbolic T-shirt from our latest Anti-Bullying Week, featuring the message “Power for Good.”

As the Commissioner leading the European Commission’s work on tackling cyberbullying, this was a valuable opportunity to share bBrave’s ideas on addressing online harm and strengthening social media regulation.

A sincere thank you to the European Commission Representation in Malta for making this meeting possible.

Il-Fundatur u President ta’ bBrave, Aaron Zammit Apap, wassal messaġġ qawwi din il-ġimgħa fuq il-programm Popolin fuq TVM: il-midja soċjali mhijiex ambjent san għat-tfal, u ħafna drabi neżaġeraw l-utilità tagħha; kwalunkwe benefiċċju huwa ferm inqas mill-perikli ċari li tippreżenta.

bBrave tappoġġja li l-età għall-aċċess għall-midja soċjali titla’ minn 13 għal 16-il sena, flimkien ma’ aktar għarfien u edukazzjoni, responsabbiltà akbar mill-pjattaformi, kif ukoll il-provvista ta’ modi alternattivi ta’ divertiment għat-tfal tagħna.

bBrave's Founder & President Aaron Zammit Apap passed a strong message this week on TVM's Popolin: social media is not a healthy environment for kids, and we overstate its usefulness; any benefits are heavily outweighed by the clear dangers it presents.

bBrave supports raising the age of social media access from 13 to 16, together with increased awareness, education and platform responsibility, as well as providing alternative modes of entertainment to our children.

27/02/2026

bBrave has supported the view that the damage caused by social media on minors warrants serious action, including raising the minimum age for social media access from age 13 to 16.

We have teamed up with another 10 stakeholders to make submissions to the government in its consultation on social media reform in Malta to lay down the rationale behind this position, calling for a series of decisions to be taken to heal the gaping social media wound.

Together with our 22 partners within the bBrave Committee on the Digital Well-Being for Kids in Malta, we are proud to announce the submission of our Response to the government's consultation on social media reform in Malta.

The Committee affirms that the wellbeing of minors in Malta should remain at the heart of any decision taken further to the Consultation.

This Response therefore proposes:
1. The careful examination of a statutory minimum age for access to social media in Malta;
2. The promulgation of new or stricter obligations on social media platforms, introducing clear and effective service level standards;
Introduction of obligations on VPN providers to aid with circumvention practices of age-verification requirements;
4. The prohibition of smart phones in schools;
5. Investment in digital education;
6. Promoting youth wellbeing initiatives.

"Placing children’s wellbeing at the forefront."

Il-bullying fuq il-post tax-xogħol ġie diskuss fuq Il-Polz taċ-Ċittadin fuq Radju Malta ma’ Tonio Bonello u l-Fundatur u President ta’ bBrave, Aaron Zammit Apap. Il-ħafna telefonati u messaġġi fakkruna kemm din l-esperjenza ta’ wġigħ hija reali, u li qatt ma nistgħu naħdmu biżżejjed biex innaqqsu l-effetti ta’ ħsara tagħha.

Workplace bullying was discussed on Il-Polz taċ-Ċittadin on Radju Malta with Tonio Bonello and bBrave’s Founder & President Aaron Zammit Apap. The multiple phone-ins and messages reminded us of how real this painful experience is, and that we can never work hard enough to mitigate its damaging effects.

Wasal iż-żmien li l-pubbliku - speċjalment il-ġenituri - jesprimi l-opinjoni tiegħu dwar jekk it-tfal taħt l-età għandhomx ikomplu jkollhom aċċess għall-midja soċjali.

bBrave temmen bis-sħiħ li peress li r-riċerka turi li dan l-aċċess qed iwassal għal aktar ansjetà, dipressjoni, tnaqqis fil-ħiliet soċjali u anke ħsara personali fost iż-żgħażagħ, hemm bżonn ta’ azzjoni deċiżiva. Aħna nappoġġjaw projbizzjoni totali tal-midja soċjali għat-tfal biex nipproteġu aħjar is-saħħa mentali u emozzjonali tagħhom.

X’inhi l-pożizzjoni tiegħek dwar dan is-suġġett?

Tista’ taqsam il-fehmiet tiegħek permezz tal-konsultazzjoni pubblika li għaddejja sas-27 ta’ Frar 2026:

-----------------------------------------------------------------

It’s time for the public - especially parents - to speak up about whether minor children should continue to have access to social media.

bBrave firmly believes that since research shows this access is contributing to increased anxiety, depression, reduced social skills, and even self-harm among young people, decisive action is needed. We support a total ban on social media for children to better protect their mental and emotional well-being.
