The Committee of the Gozo Association for the Deaf extends its heartfelt congratulations to our member, Dr. Kristina Marie Scerri, on achieving the remarkable milestone of becoming a doctor of medicine and surgery.

Kristina’s success is a powerful reminder that hearing loss is not a barrier to achieving one’s dreams. Her journey was not without challenges.

Despite these obstacles, Kristina persevered with determination, resilience, and dedication. Today, she stands as an inspiration to the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community and to all those who face barriers in pursuing their goals.

The Gozo Association for the Deaf remains committed to supporting students like Kristina by advocating for the accommodations, accessibility, and resources they need to succeed. We promise to stand by Deaf and hard-of-hearing students to ensure that hearing loss never becomes an obstacle to education, personal growth, or professional achievement.

We are incredibly proud of your achievement, Dr. Scerri. Your success is not only a personal accomplishment but also a testament to the importance of inclusion, equal opportunities, and perseverance.

Congratulations and best wishes for a bright and successful future!

Celebrating Assistive Technology Day

Carmen Grech, President, and Miriam Hili, Executive Secretary of the Gozo Association for the Deaf, attended the “Celebrating Assistive Technology Day: From Hearing Devices to Inclusive Environments” webinar organized by the European Federation of Hard of Hearing People (EFHOH).

The webinar highlighted the vital role of assistive technology in improving communication and participation for deaf and hard of hearing people. Discussions emphasized that while technology is a powerful tool, its effectiveness depends on the systems, services, and environments that support it. True inclusion requires more than access to devices—it requires accessible and inclusive communities.

As one key message from the webinar noted: “Providing access to technology without an inclusive environment is like providing glasses without light.”

The Gozo Association for the Deaf remains committed to advocating for accessible services, inclusive environments, and equal opportunities for all.

👂💙 As part of May Better Hearing Month, the Gozo Association for the Deaf, thanks to the dedication and commitment of Ms Miriam Hili and Ms Claire Micallef, successfully held awareness sessions for all Year 5 students attending State and Church Schools across Gozo.

These interactive sessions helped raise awareness about deafness, hearing loss, communication, and inclusion, while encouraging young students to better understand and appreciate the experiences of Deaf individuals within our community.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all participating schools, educators, and students for their enthusiasm and support. Together, we continue to promote awareness, accessibility, and a more inclusive society for all.
