🤝🚨 In June 2018, the NGO rescue vessel Lifeline rescued 234 people in distress in the Mediterranean after days stranded at sea while Maltese authorities delayed permission to disembark.

⚖️ Together with our partners at Mifsud and Mifsud Advocates, we defended its captain, Claus-Peter Reisch, who was charged with criminal offences.

In 2020, the Maltese Court of Criminal Appeal overturned his conviction and revoked the €10,000 fine.
➡️The judge found that the captain acted with no criminal intent and aimed to save lives.

📣 Saving human lives is a duty, not a crime.

The conversation around whether Pride is still relevant (intentionally) distracts from far more pressing (and uncomfortable) discussions we need to have:

1. Malta's steady increase in HIV diagnosis rate.
2. TCN's unable to benefit from Malta's gender recognition procedures.
3. A legal framework that fails to protect the community from discrimination.
4. LGBTIQ+ refugees unable to 'prove' their identities.
5. Conservative and patriarchal approaches towards personal freedom and expression.
6. Lack of dedicated shelters for vulnerable members of the community.

So can we please ignore YouKnowWho and get on with the more important issues?
