Earlier this month, we gathered a group of women who reside in Marsa and Ħamrun for a clay workshop as they explored the iconic character of Ġaħan. The group gathered at the Culture Hub, in Ħamrun, and explored the fool's tale across borders.
The participants shared memories, stories, and interpretations of how this familiar figure appears within their own cultural heritage.

Their work will now be displayed and open to the public between 15 and 17 June, at the Culture Hub in Hamrun (opposite Browns Pharmacy). This activity is being organised in collaboration with Refugee Week Malta.

According to UNICEF figures, around 3,500 children have died or disappeared in the Central Mediterranean in the last 10 years. We know from our work that even once they arrive, unaccompanied and separated children so often go missing.

This leaves them vulnerable to smuggling networks and human traffickers, exploitation and physical and psychological violence. JRS Malta has called, for many years, for better protection, care and support for unaccompanied minors - for them to feel safe in Malta, and for those who want to make Malta their home, to be able to do so. On International Missing Children’s Day, JRS Malta reaffirms our commitment to protecting children across Europe.
