Very sad day for some, very happy one for others....Sails Of Dawn, now sold and I hope and encourage the new, young and energetic (vegetarian BUT at least he's Cornish) owner to continue this page and her ongoing history for such an eloquent vessel as she deserves .......long may she be steadfast and powerful...testament to what British built once meant....

Large days in the office, last couple of days..and its hot...40C in the shade (and garage) - rebuilt gearbox of SOD over the past week, after sourcing all the extremely rare and bloody expensive bearings last year. One guy quoted 1,400 USD for one bearing, I needed 15! .. which made it an impossible mission, however, a great company in UK and one in Canada and India and ebay - made it all possible and gaskets and clutches from the only specialist of 'self changing gears' GB Marine in UK - a full mention later... and full test this week after mating engine to gearbox after a long time!!...and believe me the pics are short winded!!...one hell of a gearbox... for another 60+ years for sure...its been a hot pleasure - cheers for now...

Quite incredible for any sailing yacht to be built to Lloyds+100A1 'Sails of Dawn' not only benefits from that but also Lloyds Machinery Certificate (LMC) I can hardy find another in Lloyds shipping of 1972 - see below..

Its been a hard day at the office, but I heard a joke this morning (not for the first time) and it kept me chuckling away while varnishing...for 8 hours in 50+ degrees in the Sails of Dawn cocoon...here's a few fresh ones...

Its a sad but very necessary decision, Classic Laurent Giles Bermudan Yawl "Sails of Dawn' is offered for sale at a fraction of her value, the owner (me) has lost all momentum for this VERY special one owner yacht, after 2 years restoration she is pretty much finished - approx 20 - 40k to complete depending of your spec - her Burmese teak hull is a delight not to mention her extinct ROSEWOOD saloon, laminated Canadian Rock Elm frames - structurally as good as when built and built to Lloyds 100A1 (the highest build certification in the world)- she is a COMPLETE giveaway price, a similar sister is currently for sale non Lloyds build for 1.2mil USD! - see below her launch video from 69 and other specs and details - there is not another Classic around with the Provenance she is being sold with - No wonder she cost 26 average priced UK houses when built! - apart from the 4 years design, she is also the last large yacht Giles built before his death and definitely a core vessel of National Importance in UK - may even qualify for Heritage Lottery funding.......Pm ANY QUESTIONS HERE
