She left everything familiar behind, not for herself alone, but for her child. That kind of love moves mountains ๐Ÿค

Sofia arrived in Malta facing financial hardship, uncertainty, and the enormous challenge of rebuilding her life far from home. The road was steep, but she never stopped moving forward.

With support from the Women for Women Foundation, she's now taking steps toward independence, including completing Skills Pass documentation, obtaining healthcare insurance, and meeting the medical requirements for her work permit. One hard-won step at a time ๐Ÿ’›

Her journey is still unfolding. But it's already a testament to what resilience and courage can achieve when compassion and community stand beside them.

Sofia's story is not unique. Every day, women like her walk through our doors carrying hope in one hand and hardship in the other. And every day, we are reminded of why this work matters.

If her story moved you, please consider supporting us at https://womenforwomen.com.mt/donate/. Sometimes, all someone needs is a helping hand to turn hope into opportunity.

June | Women for Women 2026 Calendar

This month, we celebrate two women whose work ensures that the most vulnerable voices in Malta are not just heard, but acted upon.

Umayma Elamin Amer moved to Malta from Sudan via Libya in search of better opportunities for her children, and turned that lived experience into a mission. As founder and president of the Migrant Women Association Malta (MWAM), she's spent a decade building language classes, empowerment workshops, and support services that help migrant and refugee women find their footing and their voice. Her advocacy now reaches European level, with her serving on the WAVE Network Advisory Board and the European Commission's Expert Group on Migration.

Sarah Carabott has spent over a decade as a journalist at Times of Malta, using her platform to tell the human stories behind the headlines - migration, racism, gender-based violence, social justice. Her award-winning reporting on domestic violence and survivors of r**e has shone a light where it's needed most. Beyond the newsroom, she's an active voice against racism and for migrants' rights, helping shape national dialogue through Malta's Anti-Racism Platform.

Two women. Two very different paths. One shared belief - that every woman, no matter where she comes from, deserves to be seen, heard, and supported.

We are honoured to feature them in our 2026 calendar ๐ŸŒธ

Say hello to Rachel - our Hub Co-Ordinator and and one of the newest faces at Women for Women!

Rachel is one of those people who wears her heart on her sleeve, and we mean that as the highest compliment. She believes that supporting women means genuinely showing up for each other without judgment. Seeing them, hearing them, reminding them of their worth, and celebrating every win, big or small ๐Ÿ’›

As a mum who knows firsthand how overwhelming life can get when you're balancing family, work and everything in between, she gets it. And that's exactly what makes her so brilliant at what she does.

The woman who inspires her most is her mum. A woman of grace, resilience and endless love who shaped Rachel into the person she is today. We love that ๐Ÿค

And if you ever need to win Rachel over? A beautiful pasta dish, a glass of wine and good company. She's a self-confessed foodie who believes food is about connection, memories and enjoying life's little pleasures. Honestly, same!

We're so glad you're part of our family, Rachel ๐Ÿ’›

This year, we were lucky enough to host four incredible speakers at our 4th Annual Women's Health & Wellbeing Expo.

Prof. Marceline Naudi challenged us to open our eyes to the gender stereotypes so deeply ingrained in our society that we don't even notice them anymore. Uncomfortable? Yes. Necessary? Absolutely.

Prof. Anna Borg gave us the data to back up what so many women already feel in their bones - the unpaid work, the mental load, the invisible labour that never makes it onto a CV. If you left her talk feeling seen, you weren't alone.

Dr. Mario Refalo reminded us that menopause is so much more than hot flushes, and that suffering through it is optional. Women deserve better information, better support, and better care. Full stop.

Prof. Godfrey Grech opened our eyes to the powerful connection between our gut health, our hormones, and our overall wellbeing, and left us thinking very differently about what it means to truly support our health from the inside out.

Swipe through for a quote from each of them - and save this one, because these words deserve to be revisited ๐Ÿ’›

Thank you to all four speakers for sharing their knowledge and passion with our community. We are so grateful ๐Ÿค

Some stories don't make headlines, but they deserve to be told ๐Ÿค

After years of hardship, emotional trauma, and financial instability, one resilient woman in her mid-60s is finally beginning to rebuild her life with dignity and hope.

Having spent much of her life in difficult and abusive circumstances, she faced years of isolation, low self-esteem, and overwhelming barriers that made even the simplest tasks feel impossible. Yet despite these challenges, she has shown incredible courage in taking steps toward independence, attending medical appointments, managing her wellbeing, reconnecting with loved ones, and seeking the support needed to create a safer and more stable future.

Recently, she encountered another major obstacle in her journey: the inability to access important legal documentation required for her separation process and housing support. Limited finances and complex legal requirements placed this beyond her reach, threatening to delay the fresh start she has worked so hard to achieve.

Thanks to the compassion and support of the Women for Women Foundation, she has now been offered financial assistance toward her legal separation court fees, helping to ease some of the burden standing in her way. Beyond financial support, our Foundation has also opened doors to community initiatives, therapy services, volunteering opportunities, and a supportive weekly womenโ€™s circle designed to provide connection and empowerment.

This story is a powerful reminder that healing and rebuilding are possible at any stage in life when people are met with compassion, dignity, and meaningful support. Behind every request for help is a human being fighting quietly for stability, belonging, and the chance to move forward with hope.

If you'd like to support our work, every contribution makes a difference.

May | Women for Women 2026 Calendar

This month, we celebrate two women who understand the power of a story told well, and who use that power every single day to fight for a fairer, more compassionate Malta.

Ana Tortell is a journalist who puts human rights and social justice at the heart of everything she writes. From reproductive rights to domestic violence, homelessness to the realities of women seeking refuge in Malta, Ana believes that honest, courageous storytelling is a tool for real change. Because a more aware society is a more compassionate one ๐Ÿ’›

Claudia Calleja has spent her career as a Times of Malta journalist telling the stories of the people behind the headlines. As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend and colleague, she writes from the heart of women's lived experience, and through her platform Woman Unclouded, she's created a space where women come together to share, learn and lift each other up ๐Ÿค
