Bħala s-Soċjetà Domus Pius IX f'Bormla, kellna l-unur noħolqu żewġ pitturi ta’ arti effimera magħmula minn melħ u ross ikkulurit, f’kollaborazzjoni mal- Coordinadora Internacional de Entidades de Alfombristas de Arte Efimero.

Id-disinn jirrappreżenta d-dinja li nemmnu fiha — dinja mingħajr armi u gwerer, fejn il-bombi jinbidlu f’esplużjonijiet ta’ ħajja, u fejn in-natura tagħtina l-fjuri sbieħ li bihom noħolqu l-arti tagħna.

Permezz ta’ din il-kollaborazzjoni u l-kontribut tagħna, inkomplu nxandru messaġġ wieħed importanti: il-paċi għandha dejjem tirbaħ fuq il-gwerra.

As Domus Pius IX, we were honoured to create two pieces of ephemeral art made from coloured salt and rice, as part of a collaboration with the Coordinadora Internacional de Entidades de Alfombristas de Arte Efímero.

The design represents the world we believe in — a world without weapons, where bombs become explosions of life, and where nature provides the beautiful flowers used to create our carpets of art.

Through this collaboration and our contribution, we continue to spread one important message: may peace always prevail over war.

Three members of the Domus Pius IX Society in Bormla are currently representing Malta at an international symposium in Tarragona, Spain.

Ian Busuttil, Teddy Stivala and Lawrence Hili were invited to take part in the International Symposium 2026 – International Meeting of Carpet Makers, where artists from 15 countries are coming together around the tradition of ephemeral art.

During the event, the Maltese team is presenting works made from coloured salt and rice, including a portrait of cellist Pau Casals that will form part of a larger artistic carpet shaped like a cello.

The initiative is also tied to ongoing efforts for this art form to be recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.

The Domus Pius IX Society is already well known in Bormla for works such as the Table of the Apostles, The Golgotha, and its annual ephemeral art exhibition. This year also marks the society’s 100th anniversary.

As it celebrates its past, the society is also looking ahead, with plans to continue promoting ephemeral art internationally and eventually open a school dedicated to the art form in Bormla.

A strong moment for Maltese art and heritage on an international stage.

Grazzi tmur ukoll għall-assistenza li taw Teddy Stivala u Lawrence Hili (artisti minn Domus Pius IX – Bormla), li għenuh jittrasforma din il-viżjoni f’realtà. Dan ix-xogħol se jkun parti minn tapit f’forma ta’ vjolinċell (infjorata artistika) li jkejjel 520cm b’300cm.
