For the 50 million people living with cerebral palsy, being heard is not a given.
Our Motor Speech Disorders Committee has prepared this infographic to show how SLPs help people with CP communicate more clearly, build stronger connections and take part more fully in life.

🎙️ Register for new IALP webinar by The Motor Speech Committee (20 August 2026): Using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) for treatment goals and outcome measurement in adult motor speech clients

This session offers practical guidance on selecting published PROMs, generating client-specific non-standardised measures, and using both to write goals and document outcomes. The focus is on motor speech disorders, with the Communicative Participation Item Bank (CPIB) as a worked example, but the principles extend readily to other populations and instruments.

🌿 IALP Belém 2026: Chatting with the Presidents

What does it really mean to lead a professional association — in Brazil, or anywhere in the world?

IALP President Tamer Samir Abou-Elsaad was joined by Brazilian colleagues Ingrid Gielow (Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia – SBFa), Silvia Tavares (Conselho Federal de Fonoaudiologia – CFFa), and Pablo Pinto (Diretoria Executiva Nacional de Estudantes de Fonoaudiologia – DENEFONO) for a robust conversation on the role of professional associations in different contexts — moderated by IALP VP for Finance Arlene A. Pietranton.

The panel tackled some of the biggest challenges facing our professions today:
✅ Ensuring speech-language-hearing students are supported and well prepared
✅ Making sure the public has access to enough qualified clinicians
✅ Ensuring practitioners are valued and fairly compensated

While these challenges are global, the panel was clear: they are felt most acutely in the global south.

A powerful reminder that associations like IALP and SBFa exist to do more than represent a profession — they exist to protect it, grow it, and fight for the people within it. 🤝

Today (April 16) is World Voice Day 🗣️

Our voice is a powerful tool for connection and communication. The Voice Committee of the IALP invites you to join the World Voice Day celebration 🎉

What is World Voice Day?
Established in 1999 (originally as Brazilian Voice Day), this event is a global celebration dedicated to the phenomenal importance of the human voice in our daily lives. The mission is to encourage people of all ages to care for their vocal health and adopt good voice habits.

For hashtag , the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery is focusing on the theme "Caring for Our Voices!"

Whether you are a professional voice user, a singer, or simply using your voice every day, here are some tips to protect your voice:
✅ Hydrate: Drink 8-10 cups of water daily to keep vocal folds lubricated.
✅ Vocal Naps: Take regular breaks to let your vocal folds recover from vibration.
✅ Warm-Up: Use gentle humming and lip trills with pitch glides before starting your day.
✅ Listen: If your voice changes or feels strained for more than two weeks, seek professional care!

Today, on World Autism Awareness Day with the 2026 theme "Autism and Humanity: Every Life Has Value," we are once again reminded that inclusion in communication sciences is not optional; it is fundamental.

This year's WAAD observance, organized by the Institute Of Neurodiversity (ION) with United Nations support, calls on everyone to move beyond deficit-based models and build systems that recognize the inherent dignity of autistic people.

We encourage our members, professionals, and partners to:
