Daily Fieldwork: Mountain Roads and Livelihoods
In the Daliang Mountains of Sichuan, our service team remains on the move!
After a journey of over three hours—traversing mountain passes from the county seat—we reach the homes of individuals living with the infection. We check in on how they are doing and discuss their family’s current situation, including their household income.
Our livelihood support initiatives aim to help these families establish a stable means of earning an income, ultimately improving their overall well-being. This is not the kind of work that can be done from an office desk.
No matter how long or arduous the journey, wherever there is a need, we will be there—just as we have always been!

Daily Service: Giving One’s Best, Day After Day
Many volunteers have served at the leprosy rehabilitation center for years. As time has passed, the volunteers’ own physical strength has naturally declined, while the residents—now even more advanced in age—require increasingly complex care.
Even when they feel their physical limitations, the volunteers remain steadfast in their commitment, carrying out their daily tasks with dedication.
For instance, when a resident’s roof began to leak, the volunteers stepped in to make repairs. Even if the problem recurs, they never lose heart. Day after day, year after year, they remain grounded, focusing on the work at hand.
Life’s journey inevitably brings its share of storms; yet, by living each day well, one will surely see the clouds part and the sun shine through once again.

Daily Service: A Blend of Hardship and Joy
During the Mid-Autumn Festival, volunteers joined hospital staff to visit and offer comfort to inpatients. Being hospitalized during such a celebratory time can make one feel especially lonely; yet, a simple greeting or a gesture of care can bring a touch of sweetness to a patient’s suffering—and, in turn, brighten the hearts of everyone involved.
💛 May everyone find the strength to give, even in the midst of ordinary days. With just a little more warmth, we can bring a little more love into this world.

Next year marks the 40th anniversary of Ricci Social Services.
【Reflections on the Journey Toward Forty】

The photograph shows a corner of the rehabilitation center on Dajin Island. It was there, in 1987, that Father Louis Baggio—tireless even at the age of 74—stepped onto the island and into the lives of those undergoing rehabilitation. That moment laid the foundation for what is now Ricci Social Services, which has reached its 39th year and will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year.
It all began with the courageous initiative of one individual, and has been sustained to this day through the collective, dedicated efforts of many.

Thank you to everyone—past, present, and future—who has worked alongside us.

It is a simple, everyday occurrence: volunteers accompanying elderly individuals to the hospital for medical check-ups—because good health is something we all value and hope for!
