Silk Road Camel NGO | UNCCD COP17

Silk Road Camel NGO was honored to present its initiative, “Camel Conservation, Breeding and Sustainable Development of Gobi Rangelands,” at the UNCCD COP17, hosted in Mongolia, at the Government of Mongolia Pavilion in the Blue Zone.

Our initiative highlights the important connection between Gobi rangeland conservation, traditional camel husbandry, sustainable livelihoods of pastoral households, and Mongolia’s nomadic cultural heritage.

As drought, desertification and rangeland degradation continue to affect Mongolia’s drylands, protecting camel husbandry, which is well adapted to the Gobi environment, preserving traditional knowledge, and creating sustainable income opportunities for pastoral households are important pathways towards sustainable development.

Through our participation at COP17, we shared Mongolia’s experience and highlighted the importance of strengthening international cooperation to protect camels, sustain rangelands and support the livelihoods of pastoral communities.

We sincerely thank the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry and the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency for their support and for providing us with the opportunity to present our work on this international platform.

We also extend our appreciation to the Government of Mongolia and the UNCCD COP17 organizing team for creating a valuable platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange and international cooperation on desertification, land degradation and sustainable development.

Silk Road Camel NGO | UNCCD COP17 🌱☘️🌿

As part of UNCCD COP17, hosted by Mongolia, Silk Road Camel NGO is presenting the interconnected role of Mongolia’s Gobi rangelands, traditional camel herding and the sustainable livelihoods of pastoral households, while highlighting opportunities to support and strengthen this relationship through international cooperation.

In the arid regions of the Gobi, drought, desertification and rangeland degradation are increasingly affecting the traditional way of life and livelihoods of herding communities. In this context, protecting camel husbandry—well adapted to the Gobi environment—preserving traditional knowledge and expanding income opportunities for pastoral households represent important pathways towards sustainable development.

Through our work, we are sharing our experience in supporting women herders, preserving nomadic cultural heritage and promoting sustainable camel-based production. We aim to strengthen international cooperation that brings together the protection of Gobi rangelands and the environment with sustainable livelihoods for herding communities.

Silk Road Camel NGO | UNCCD COP17

Монгол Улсад зохион байгуулагдаж буй UNCCD COP17-ын хүрээнд Silk Road Camel NGO нь Монголын говийн бэлчээр, тэмээний уламжлалт аж ахуй, малчин өрхийн тогтвортой амьжиргааны уялдаа холбоо болон түүнийг дэмжих боломжийг олон улсын түвшинд танилцуулж байна.

Говийн хуурай бүс нутагт ган, цөлжилт, бэлчээрийн доройтол нь малчдын уламжлалт амьдрал, амьжиргаанд нөлөөлж байна. Энэ нөхцөлд говийн байгальд дасан зохицсон тэмээний аж ахуйг хамгаалах, уламжлалт мэдлэгийг хадгалах, малчин өрхийн орлогын боломжийг нэмэгдүүлэх нь тогтвортой хөгжлийн нэг чухал боломж юм.
