We are based in city of Ulaanbaatar, most polluted city in the world where air pollution level that is 80 times the recommended safety level set by World Health Organization. In Ulaanbaatar city of 1.3 million, just from air pollution alone we lose 550 children between age of 0-5 on air pollution related illness. We desperately need urgent change. Air pollution is just one of many symptoms of soci
ety’s illness in Mongolia. Polluted environment and unplanned urbanization, extreme poverty and unemployment, lack of transparency and high corruption is all inseparable, interconnected. Way to bring lasting change one must see all these as system. Of course it will be extremely hard to change entire country even small one like Mongolia. So our idea is to bring a change we need grassroots power, from people and do it one community at a time. If all the organizations and people who worry about ger district and greater Mongolia concentrate and focus in one community and tackle problems from different angle it will be lasting success. If this project succeeds all Mongolians will have inspiration and role model to follow. Pilot project Turning Ger community into prosperous, sustainable, green community governed by citizen’s participation with liquid democracy. In our community we have 3000 families and 12000 residents. Combined we have over 100 million USD worth of real state and empty land worth over 50 million in center of UB city we have many engineers, skilled laborers, teachers, and doctors. Because of lack of urban planning and government funding people live in 18th century condition. By bringing people together we will have new planning and by effectively using land we can raise as much as 50 million to fund sustainable and green development in the community. About 70% of labor necessary for project will be hired from community member so poverty and unemployment will be addressed too. We will encourage people to open new business and will fund coops to sustain further development. Once community came together for bettering their lives we will use and nourish this connection and nurture it to active democratic participation in decision making. From the profit of this project we will establish investment fund for next Green Khoroos to come. Our plan is always evolving
1. Bring the people together enlighten residents about green community and its benefits. Advantages of being organized in democratic society Establish community NGO for advocating people’s rights in Ger district.
2. Plan green community urban planning for efficient land use, plan for road, kindergarten, schools, and community centers.
3. Start building new passive solar houses, Earthships and make older homes energy efficient. Making sure that as much as money and resource is stayed in the community.
4. Nurture community to become self-sufficient and can prosper on her own. Introduce liquid democracy on local decision making.
5. Establish a fund from the profit and fund next green Khoroo/community.
