[Industry News]

The Caving-2026 International Conference officially opened today in Ulaanbaatar, bringing together leading underground mining experts from around the world. The conference is taking place from 11–14 August 2026.

🌏 Representatives from major global mining companies, including Rio Tinto, BHP and Codelco, are participating to exchange knowledge and share international best practices in underground and cave mining.

Key topics throughout the four-day conference include:
🔹 Safe, responsible and efficient underground mining
🔹 Automation and artificial intelligence
🔹 Advanced technologies and innovation
🔹 Productivity and operational performance
🔹 Risk management in underground mining

Following the conference, participants will visit Oyu Tolgoi to learn about its underground mining operations and development. Oyu Tolgoi uses "block caving", a bulk mining method that uses gravity to extract large volumes of ore efficiently.

The Caving Conference series was first organised by the Australian Centre for Geomechanics in 2007 in South Africa and has since become a key international forum for the underground mining industry.
