ABCP Interactive meeting
An ABCP informal meeting was held on Saturday, 24 January 2025 the sidelines of the Second Global Buddhist Summit, which is being held in New Delhi, India organized by the International Buddhist Confederation.
The informal meeting was organized by the Indian National Center for ABCP given the fact that members from several National Centers of ABCP were taking part in the Second Global Buddhist Summit.
Speaking at the meeting, President of ABCP, Most Ven. Khensur Nomun Khan of Gandan, Gabji D. Choijamts recalled the prominent Buddhist monks from Sri Lanka, Nepal, India, Russia and Mongolia who initiated and founded the Asian Buddhists Conference for Peace more than 55 years ago in 1970 in Ulaanbaatar with the objective of rallying the Buddhists in the region for peace and security. In today’s turbulent and uncertain world when armed and other conflicts are raging in and between different countries, the ABCP President, reiterated his commitment to continue the effort of the organization for promoting peace in keeping with the teachings of Lord Buddha as bequeathed to him by one of the founding fathers of ABCP, Most Ven. Kushok Bakula Rinpoche from India, who handed him the baton of the charge of ABCP.
Mr. Sonam Wangchuk Shakspo, Deputy Secretary General of ABCP and Secretary of the Indian National Center of ABCP briefed the informal meeting about another informal meeting held between the ABCP President with the President and Vice President of the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha and the head of the Vietnam National Center for ABCP. At this meeting, the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha and the Vietnam National Center for ABCP decided to host the next 13th General Assembly of ABCP in Vietnam, tentatively in November 2026.
At the informal meeting, Dr. Khy Sovanratana, Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Government of Cambodia and Deputy Secretary General of ABCP explained the reason for Cambodia not being able to host the regular Executive Council Meeting of ABCP in Cambodia, however, His Excellency, remembering his guru and a long-standing stalwart Member of ABCP, the late Most Venerable Tep Vong, announced his commitment to continue the cause of his master to support the activities of ABCP.
Most Ven. Dr. Thich Nhat Tu, Standing Vice Chancellor of Vietnam Buddhist University, which is the ABCP National Center One of Vietnam, briefed the participants in the informal meeting about the decision of his National Center and the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha to host the next regular General Assembly of ABCP in Vietnam in late 2026.
Other speakers, Most Ven. Maitipe Wimalasara of the Sri Lanka National Center (Wimalasara Chapter), Mr. Deva Priya Barua, Senior Vice President of the Bangladesh National Center of ABCP one, Most Ven. Ch. Dambajav, the head of the Mongolian ABCP National Center One made remarks at the informal meeting, commenting on the decision regarding the Executive Council meeting and the General Assembly.
After discussion, the members of the National Centers agreed to organize the Executive Council Meeting in Bodh Gaya, India in late March early April, and the 13th General Assembly on 5 December 2026.
