Global Village for Hope - GVH Philanthropy

Global Village for Hope - GVH Philanthropy Bringing funds directly to places in need, not to be given to the people, but to be used to fund actual projects that will benefit the local community.

My name is Linus Lin from Singapore and my journey started in August 2013 when I first sponsored 2 teachers in Myanmar to provide free English education for 50 needy children in a local orphanage. The more I venture deeper into the rural area of Myanmar, the more I realize how much I could contribute to the needy people. Follow my page at www.gvh.sg to see what some of the work I have done, have b

een doing and will be doing. In November 2014, in an effort to increase my reach to bring help to more people, I recruited Joseph, one of the English teacher I sponsored in 2013. Together, we coined the name 'Global Village for Hope' with the mission of bringing hope to more people in the rural part of the world. Joseph now runs most of the daily operations in Myanmar while I operate mainly in Singapore. Along the way, we met like-minded people who are willing to lend a helping hand, both financially and with effort. We encourage people of the world who have more than sufficient for ourselves to contribute generously to our humanitarian and philanthropic initiatives. We explore the land, understand the areas of concern, devise ways to help, find out the total cost involved, proposed projects for funds and execute those projects. So we bring donations to projects to benefit the people directly, cutting the need for middleman to the very minimal. As of December 2015, our group of kind donors have touched the lives of about 200 orphans mainly in Yangon area and its outskirt in 10 different orphanages and homes, 80 students in the remote primary school in Northern Myanmar, 40 villagers on the mountain top of Zui Tui and 25 widows. We have also constructed 2 mechanical wells in 2 villages impacting the lives of about 100 villagers and 4 manual water pump bringing fresh water closer to about 50 villagers. Other projects includes mushroom farming, road widening, school construction, bursary for high school students, warm blankets contribution, ‘Rice for Hope’ initiatives and relief efforts for flood and landslide victims.

Into the Mist: Exploring the Highland Wonders of Fulan Fehan

Aloha Partners!

Our exploration of Timor continues, and the journey is proving to be nothing short of spectacular! Following their time in Kefamenanu, our team set their sights on Atambua and the highlands beyond, continuing their mission to discover the hidden treasures of the region.

On Monday, June 15th, the team departed from Kefa at 9:30 AM, enjoying a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Atambua. After a well-deserved lunch break, they pressed onward toward the stunning Fulan Fehan, a two-hour journey that brought them deep into the heart of the island’s highlands.

Upon arrival, the team was met with a breathtaking, ethereal landscape draped in mist. Fulan Fehan proved to be a highlight of the trip, offering a serene atmosphere that captivated everyone. For Jaiden and our explorers, the experience was truly magical. They spent time riding horses through the vast, rolling terrain and were thoroughly delighted by the local hospitality and the quality of the service provided. With cameras in hand, the team spent ample time documenting the spectacular views before heading back to Atambua Town.

The evening in Atambua was productive and restful; the team picked up essential supplies, including mosquito nets, checked into their hotel, and enjoyed a group dinner to recharge for the next leg of their journey. The team’s journey across Timor continues to showcase the incredible potential and natural beauty of this region.

Stay tuned, there is much more to come from our ongoing expedition!

Highland Adventures: Discovering the Beauty of Soe and Beyond

Greetings Partners!

Our team’s exploration continues with an unforgettable journey through the cool, mist-covered landscapes of Timor! On June 14, 2026, the team experienced the refreshing climate of Soe, a town reminiscent of the Cameron Highlands but with a much quieter, less touristy atmosphere.

Starting from the Grand Soe Hotel, the team headed toward the Nuaf Nefomasi nature reserve. Located near Mutis Mountain the highest peak on Timor Island the area offers a cool climate ranging between 16°C and 20°C, making the car’s air-conditioning unnecessary.

According to Mr Pang The nature reserve is remarkably underrated, offering fantastic views and a landscape that feels strikingly similar to Australia or New Zealand. During their visit, the team found a resort with high-quality, reasonably priced rooms at Rp 350,000 per night, complete with hot water. The local staff are very helpful and can provide meals or facilitate BBQs for guests.

While walking through the natural reserve, the team enjoyed the refreshing mountain water of the local river, where residents were relaxing. Back in Soe city, Nesco had a stroke of luck; after realizing he had forgotten his passport, a friend of his brother who was traveling from Kupang to Soe was able to deliver it just in time.

The day concluded with a swift 1.5-hour drive to Kefamenanu, arriving at approximately 6:00 p.m. after navigating through challenging downhill, winding roads.

This journey through the heart of Timor highlights the immense potential for ecotourism in the region. Stay tuned as we catch up on the rest of the team's incredible expedition!

From Kupang to the Shores of Rote: An Island Exploration

Aloha Partners!

Following their inspiring day in Kupang, our team set their sights on a new horizon.

On 12 June, five representatives from GVH—Gio, Nesco, Mr. Nikson, Jaiden, and Mr. Pang—embarked on an exciting exploration trip to Rote Island. This journey was particularly meaningful, as it introduced the breathtaking beauty of Rote to Jaiden and Mr. Pang, both of whom were visiting the island for the very first time.

Departing from the harbor at 9:30 a.m., the team arrived at Baa Harbor at 11:45 a.m., where they were warmly welcomed by Mr. Ferdi, who served as their driver throughout the trip. Before continuing to their main destination in Nemberala, the group stopped in Mokdale to enjoy lunch together.

For their stay, the team chose Ova Baluk Bungalow, a simple yet charming local accommodation that offered a warm and relaxing atmosphere for the explorers.

After a short rest, the group set out to explore the Nemberala area in search of the perfect swimming spot. Within just twenty minutes, they discovered an ideal beach. Mr. Pang and Jaiden eagerly embraced the opportunity to swim in the crystal-clear waters, while Gio, Nesco, and Mr. Nikson enjoyed quality time together along the shore, taking in the peaceful surroundings.

The day came to a close beneath an extraordinary orange sunset that painted the horizon with breathtaking colors. The team then shared dinner together and spent a relaxing evening preparing for the adventures that awaited them in the days ahead.

This exploration of Rote is another chapter in GVH's ongoing mission to connect, learn, and experience the unique beauty and richness of the region.

Stay tuned for more updates as the team continues their island journey!

[Explore Kupang – Day 1]
A Day of Growth, Nature, and Sunset Vistas: Exploring Kupang with GVH (Part 1)

Thursday, June 11th, marked an unforgettable day of connection and discovery in Kupang.

We were delighted to have our dedicated GVH volunteer and explorer, Mr. Pang, joined by our youngest volunteer, Jaiden, as they immersed themselves in the local way of life. Accompanied by our local explorers, Gio and Nesco, the team began their adventure by spending the night at the Besmarak Airbnb, experiencing firsthand the warmth and simplicity of the local community.

The day started early, with the team heading to the farm alongside Mr. Nikson, the father of one of our Smart Project recipients. Mr. Pang and Jaiden enthusiastically rolled up their sleeves and joined in the work, helping to fertilize the soil and prepare the land for a fruitful harvest.

After a rewarding morning on the farm, the team visited one of Kupang’s hidden treasures, Nekamese Eco Park. Surrounded by lush greenery and peaceful scenery, they enjoyed the tranquil views of the small dam and had the delightful opportunity to feed the deer.

To end an already memorable day on a perfect note, the group continued their journey to another hidden gem in West Kupang, Oesina Beach. There, they spent the afternoon unwinding while witnessing the breathtaking golden sunset for which Kupang is so well known.

This incredible journey is only the beginning.

Stay tuned for Part 2: Explore Rote, coming your way soon!

[Myanmar Fundraising – The Empty Desk: Why Our Children Need Your Help Now]

Greetings, Partners!

In the quiet corners of our community in Myanmar, the upcoming school season does not bring the usual excitement of crisp paper and new possibilities. For many of our children, it brings a heavy burden of worry.

Imagine a student sitting at their desk, eager to learn, yet lacking the most basic tools to record their dreams and ideas. An empty exercise book may seem like a small thing, but for the 61 children under the care of Global Village for Hope—including those attending our Mini Library classes and those living in our supported homes—it has become a significant barrier to education.

These children are eager to study science, master mathematics, improve their English, and express their creativity through drawing. However, without proper learning materials, their potential remains trapped on pages they cannot write on.

Today, we are launching an urgent fundraising campaign to ensure that no child begins the new school year at a disadvantage. Our goal is to raise SGD 393 to provide the first batch of essential exercise books, including science, mathematics, English, and drawing books, for the 61 children who need them most.

This is the first of three planned distributions, and the urgency grows with each passing day as the new school term rapidly approaches.

By contributing to this campaign, you are doing far more than purchasing stationery. You are placing the tools of learning into a child's hands. You are giving them a place to write answers when teachers ask questions, to solve problems, to practice new words, and to sketch their dreams of a brighter future.

Will you help us fill these empty desks with the tools of success?

If you would like to support this initiative, please leave us a message through any of the following channels:

Thank you for standing with our children and investing in their future.

Stay tuned for more updates as we work together to turn this urgent need into reality for every one of our students.

From Classroom Champions to City Explorers: A Milestone Week in Myanmar

Aloha Partners,

The Myanmar Mini Library has reached an incredible milestone, marking the successful completion of another transformative three-month term.

On 26 May 2026, our students put their hard work to the test during their final examinations, followed by a joyful prize-giving ceremony attended by proud parents and community members. We are delighted to recognize our English and Mathematics Champions:

Grade 3: Myat Lin Aung (English – 100) and Om Sein (Mathematics – 82)

Grade 4: Shwe Thang (English – 88) and Esther (Mathematics – 98)

Grade 5: Ning Sein Pai (English – 80) and Htar Waya Min (Mathematics – 84)

To celebrate their achievements, all champions received exercise books and GVH camp bags. In addition, 15 students who achieved perfect attendance, along with all other participants, were also rewarded with exercise books and bags, ensuring that every child’s effort and commitment were recognized. The celebration concluded with a special lunch and an exciting afternoon of football.

The excitement continued on 30 May 2026, when 23 children and 3 adults embarked on a memorable excursion to downtown Yangon. For almost all of the children, it was their first opportunity to visit and explore the city center.

The day was filled with new experiences, including boat rides at People’s Park, a shared lunch, and a visit to the city zoo. The highlight for many was the planetarium show, which continues to be their favorite educational activity. Although one student unfortunately experienced motion sickness throughout the trip, the excursion was an overwhelming success and provided the children with valuable exposure to a world beyond their community.

This memorable outing served as a fitting conclusion to a season of dedication, learning, and growth. We are incredibly proud of these young learners and look forward to seeing them continue to thrive, explore, and achieve even greater things in the future.

Stay tuned for more updates on their journey!

Warm regards,
The GVH Team

From Blueprint to Backyard: The Takes Root!

Greetings Partners! 👋

The vision for the in Besmarak is rapidly transforming from concept into reality as the team makes significant progress in procuring the infrastructure needed to bring the project to life.

On June 3rd, Gio and Nesco spent the day traveling around Kupang to carefully source and hand-pick the essential components required for our circular farming ecosystem. This was far more than a simple shopping trip—it was a focused effort to secure the critical elements that will maintain the delicate balance between the fish, poultry, and vegetable components of the system.

The team successfully acquired a specialized sailor’s net, high-quality filtration media, oyster filter media, and durable sponge filters, all of which play a vital role in maintaining water quality as it circulates throughout the integrated system. They also purchased net pots for the hydroponic upper tier, ensuring that each component is suitable for long-term use and sustainability.

At the center of this filtration setup is the dedicated filtration bucket, which will house the filter media and serve as the heart of our zero-waste water processing system. Together, these components transform a simple container into an efficient biological filtration unit capable of supporting the entire ecosystem.

With these materials now in hand, the project is moving beyond the planning stage and into physical construction. Every piece—from the filtration media to the hydroponic net pots—has been carefully selected to support our goal of creating a sustainable, self-sustaining food production system for families in Besmarak.

The gears are turning, the materials are ready, and our vertical ecosystem is finally beginning to rise from the ground up. We are now one major step closer to making sustainable, circular farming a reality for the local community.

Stay tuned for updates as we begin the assembly phase!

[Mini Library Besmarak Activity]
Building Beyond the Basket: Innovation at the Besmarak Mini Library

Greetings, Partners!

The creativity in Besmarak continues to flourish. Building on the momentum from their previous session, the children returned to the Mini Library on Saturday, May 30th, to further develop their crafting and construction skills.

While many of them continued working on their baskets and added finishing touches such as ribbons and flowers, the room quickly transformed into a hub of creativity and innovation. Inspired by their previous projects, the children began exploring new functional designs that could be useful in their daily lives.

Among their creations were custom-made pencil boxes to help organize school supplies, decorative flower bouquets, and small shelves crafted from simple materials such as ice cream sticks and straws. It was inspiring to see how they transformed ordinary materials into practical and meaningful items.

This session was about more than just arts and crafts—it was about nurturing creativity, problem-solving skills, and resourcefulness. By designing and building useful objects with their own hands, the children learned how imagination and perseverance can help solve everyday challenges.

We hope these functional creations will serve them well at home and in school, while also reminding them that they have the ability to create, innovate, and build the tools they need to succeed.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Warm regards,
The GVH Team

[Mini Library Activity - From Paper Blooms to Woven Baskets: Engineering Craftsmanship in Besmarak]

The Besmarak Mini Library has officially leveled up. After mastering the patient art of origami last month, the children gathered once again on Saturday, May 23rd, for their latest weekly session — trading paper folds for a more structural challenge: building intricate mini baskets using ice cream sticks and straws.

The library was filled with an infectious sense of focus and creativity. While previous sessions introduced the students to the precision of paper folding, this activity challenged them to think more deeply about construction, balance, and design. Each child became fully immersed in their own project, carefully measuring, gluing, and weaving materials together to ensure their baskets could hold their shape properly.

The creativity did not stop at the structure itself. True to the spirit of the Besmarak workshop, the finishing touches became the moment where each child’s personality truly shone. The children transformed their baskets into personalized works of art by adding decorative “toppings” such as handcrafted fabric flowers, colorful ribbons, and other creative details.

More than just a craft activity, these sessions are gradually becoming training grounds for problem-solving, patience, creativity, and self-expression. Through simple hands-on projects like these, the children are learning how to turn ordinary materials into meaningful creations.

As they continue to build, measure, and refine their work, the children are also developing the kind of “maker mindset” that will soon connect to larger community initiatives happening around them. From the intricate baskets they proudly held in their hands this Saturday to the vertical circular farms currently under construction nearby, the youth of Besmarak are learning an important lesson: with simple materials, teamwork, and patience, they can build almost anything.

Stay tuned for more updates!

[3 in 1 Farm - Circular Farming Project]

The vision of a zero-waste, 3-in-1 farm is officially moving from the drafting table to the soil. After months of planning and consultations with Prof. Pace, the circular farming project is now officially in motion in Kupang.

Greetings, Partners!

This week, Nesco explored material shops and specialty pet stores across Kupang to turn the original concept into a practical and workable system. The team has begun sourcing durable pipes for the hydroponic vegetable network, heavy-duty tarpaulin for the fish reservoirs, and essential components to support the catfish and goldfish section of the project.

Although it may appear simple, every detail carries significant importance. In a circular farming system, every component must work together efficiently. The correct pipe size is needed to maintain proper water flow, the tarpaulin must be strong enough to ensure long-term durability, and the fish habitat must support healthy growth alongside the vegetables. Through direct field research and market surveys, Nesco is helping ensure that the system built in Besmarak will become a reliable and sustainable food source for local families rather than just an experiment.

This project is not only about building tanks and connecting pipes. It is about creating a household-scale, closed-loop farming system where each part supports the other. The fish will serve as a natural biological filtration system, while nutrients from the fish reservoirs will circulate through the hydroponic pipes to nourish the vegetables. The system is designed to reduce dependence on external markets while encouraging self-sustained food production.

The Besmarak circular farm will feature a three-tiered vertical structure with hydroponic vegetables on top, egg-laying chickens in the middle, and catfish reservoirs at the base. By building vertically instead of horizontally, local families can produce vegetables, eggs, and protein within a compact area.

With the essential materials now being secured, the project is officially moving from the planning stage into the assembly phase.

Stay tuned for more updates!
