Our goal is to give those most vulnerable children and young people perspectives and a chance to lead a life in dignity – through provision of comprehensive care and support in education, health care, nutrition and assistance of families. Currently, about 1500 children, adolescents and their families benefit from our projects. Look

A new home for our student Thandar and her family! ❤️

South Dagon, august 2026

Due to sad circumstances beyond their control, the family of 3 of our Sonne students, had to live in this “hut” you can see in the first picture.In the second photo you can see the “kitchen” and the “bathroom” - this is not how anyone should have to live. And its hard to imagine that 7 (!) people even found space there.

Thanks to our emergency fund, we were able to construct a new bamboo hut for them, it was erected within 2 days.

It’s not a Villa, but it keeps them dry and the family can live in dignity here. In the next days we will also make sure they have decent washing facilities and a place to cook.

The construction of the whole hut incl material and labor was only 18 lakh, around 450 USD.

This was only possible because of our emergency fund, which is filled by kind people like you. Please keep on supporting us, so, together we can make a difference here for the people in Myanmar!

This is solidarity ❤️

A heartfelt THANK YOU to our friends at Asia Language & British Alma - ALBA school Yangon - who visited us with 40 7th graders and teachers at our Daycare Center 2 at the end of July. They didn’t come with empty hands!

School supplies and toys as well as snacks were distributed to 150 of our children! The students were also very interested to learn about the circumstances in which our children have to grow up and which challenges they face every day - and that many children in Myanmar do not have the opportunity to visit a school at all.

Thank you to all the students, teachers and parents involved in this wonderful initiative!

This was not the first time we could count on the support of ALBA school Yangon - already after the earthquake 2025 , we received massive support, countless boxes of clothes as well as cash donations, which we distributed among the earthquake affected communities on Inle lake!

Thank you very much for your support and friendship dear ALBA school Yangon! We greatly appreciate it, and hope to welcome you soon again at Sonne ☀️

Sonne in action!

After torrential rains caused massive flooding in wide parts of Yangon - also the areas where we are active were affected - our teachers did not hesitate and went, equipped with bags of food supplies, out into the neighborhoods and checked on our students and their families. Fortunately nobody was injured, but many huts, especially roofs, were badly damaged, so there will be a lot of work for us the next weeks, in order to secure that our students have at least a roof over their heads!

Possible only through our emergency fund - thank you all our supporters who still care about the fate of the people here in Myanmar!

A few pictures which were taken at our Daycare center 3 (inwa housing, South Dagon) today, in order to promote our brand new SONNE website which will be online from 31st July

Our Daycare center (DCC) 3 is the smallest of our 3 centers (very soon it will be four!) - 3 teachers look after 40 children in the NFE non-formal- education programme, and another 40 in the free tuition classes!

Look at those smiles! ☀️✨

Just a few years ago, these bright young minds didn’t have the opportunity to attend school. Many had to work from a very young age to support their families, and some were living on the streets.

Then, their journey with SONNE began. 💛
After completing 2 years in our Non-Formal Education (NFE) program, these students have now been officially accepted into government school! 🎒✏️

To make this transition possible, SONNE provides:
Full school uniforms & learning materials
Coverage of all official fees
Free daily tuition classes
Assistance with obtaining birth certificates (a key requirement for official registration)

What’s Next?
Because these wonderful students have successfully transitioned into government school, we now have open spots to welcome a new group of children from the street and informal settlements of Yangon’s eastern suburbs. Guided by our experienced social workers and teachers, they will get their own chance at a brighter future.

„Through education out of poverty“ — that is our guiding credo. ☀️

Tuesday is Mobile Healthcare Day at SONNE in Myanmar!

Every Tuesday, our small medical team—doctors, nurses, and helpers—packs boxes of equipment and medicine onto our light truck. We head out to areas where people have no access to affordable healthcare—either because there’s no doctor nearby, or because they simply can’t afford consultations, medicine, or hospital stays.

We visit IDP camps, orphanages, children’s homes, and Buddhist monasteries/nunneries, as well as the vast slum areas surrounding our SONNE schools and daycare centers in eastern Yangon.

Our Mobile Healthcare Camp provides free consultations and medicine. When needed, we cover all costs and arrange transport to the nearest hospital for specialists, surgeries, or medical aids like wheelchairs and crutches.
This work allows us to prevent disease outbreaks in crowded places, provide crucial hygiene training for mothers and children, and—most importantly—save lives. Tragically, children here still die from preventable issues like diarrhea or skin infections leading to sepsis. Recently, we also identified a group of children with TB; fortunately, we started treatment in time, and they are all recovering well.

This project is fully funded through our Emergency Fund, which relies entirely on contributions from compassionate people and organizations worldwide. Without your support, we couldn’t do this work.
