BRAC Myanmar BRAC was established in 2013 as two entities in Myanmar; an INGO and a microfinance company health, agriculture and education programmes.

BRAC is established as two entities in Myanmar; an INGO and a microfinance company. BRAC offers a pro-rural and pro-poor service as well as bringing a holistic development model delivered through its microfinance plus approach. By building the platform of branch offices throughout Myanmar, BRAC plans to create integrated development hubs where microfinance will be complemented by e.g. The information gathered from microfinance activities are being recorded systematically to identify needs of the community for better design and delivery of services. In 2013, BRAC Myanmar received its license to operate in Myanmar. The company has been registered with the Ministry of Finance as a for profit organization. BRAC Myanmar disbursed its first micro-loan on 18 June, 2014. The loans are specifically targeted to poor women, with an average size of USD 255, and split between rural and urban areas. As of November 2016, USD 14.4 million has been disbursed, reaching 36,369 people. In addition to its country office in Yangon, BRAC has one regional office in Bago and one in Mandalay as well as 34 branch offices covering 30 townships in Myanmar. Since 2016, BRAC has an emergency response coordinator who prepares the branch offices to handle emergency and humanitarian situations better, as well as strengthening community resilience to commonly occurring emergencies in Myanmar.

Since literacy and education are also part of BRAC Myanmar’s mission, we are pleased to celebrate International Literacy Day today.

At BRAC Myanmar, we do more than provide loan products. We also deliver financial literacy training to our clients, helping them build essential knowledge and skills for managing their finances. The training covers important topics such as organising their finances, the basics of saving money, guidance on borrowing money, understanding insurance, and business management. So far, a total of 68,937 clients have received these training sessions.

We believe that through these sessions, our clients will be able to practice proper financial management in their daily lives, improve their quality of life, and move closer to achieving their goals.

Since childhood, Thi Thi Han Tun had been helping her parents with their flower farming business. Seeing the hard work farmers put in and the limited profits they earned, she decided to start her own flower selling business at the age of 27. She started the business with a loan from BRAC Myanmar during the COVID-19 pandemic. At first, she loaded flowers onto a motorcycle and went from village to village to sell them. It was not easy. During the pandemic, she had to deal with low income, small profits, and high expenses. With the encouragement of her family, however, she managed to get through those difficulties and kept going.

Today, the business that once depended on a single motorcycle has grown. She now has her own stalls at Thar Si Market, Phayar Ngr Suu Market, Yin Mar Pin Market, Pyi Nyaung Market, and Hlaing Tet Market, where she sells flowers according to the market schedule.

“Even when you feel tired, you have to find the strength to keep going and continue trying.”

Nang Thiri makes a living mainly through farming and the hair collection business while taking on different sources of income to support her family. During the farming season, she focuses on agriculture. When the farming season is over, she sells fresh vegetables and dried fish. When sales are slow, she turns to the hair collection business to ensure that her family continues to have a steady source of income.

There was a time when she faced major challenges, including difficulties with transportation and access to roads, crop losses caused by bad weather, and financial instability. Over the four years she has been a BRAC Myanmar client, Nang Thiri has gained greater knowledge of financial management and learned to make better use of the opportunities available to her to sustain her businesses. Today, Nang Thiri is not only a young woman who owns farmland and leads the hair collection business in the village but also an active community leader who participates in and contributes to local activities.

“By turning the challenges we face into opportunities, staying honest, and moving forward with determination and perseverance, we can eventually find our place and achieve success,” said Nang Thiri.

Sandar Myo has been running a wholesale clothing business across villages in Shan State for more than two years. When she first started her business, she faced several challenges as she had to sell her products on a monthly payment basis within her community. After taking a loan from BRAC Myanmar, she invested in her business and was able to expand her wholesale distribution to nearby villages. As a result, her regular income has also increased.

“In the future, I hope to open my own clothing shop under my own name. I want to prove to other young women that no matter what challenges or criticism they may face from those around them, if they have the determination to work hard and seize the right opportunities, they can overcome difficulties and achieve success,” said Sanda Myo.

တင်တင်ဦးဟာ ဆံပင်အလှပြင်ဆိုင်လုပ်ငန်းကို လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့ ၆ နှစ်က စတင်လုပ်ကိုင်ခဲ့တာပါ။ လုပ်ငန်းစတင်ချိန်မှာ ကုန်ဈေးနှုန်းအခြေအနေကြောင့် ဆိုင်ခန်းငှားခဈေးကြီးပြီး ဝန်ထမ်းငှားမရတဲ့ အခက်အခဲတွေကို ကျော်ဖြတ်ခဲ့ရပါတယ်။ အဲလိုကနေ သူမဟာ လုပ်ငန်းတိုးချဲ့ချင်ခဲ့တာကြောင့် BRAC Myanmar ကနေ ချေးငွေယူခဲ့တယ်။ ယခုလက်ရှိချေးငွေယူပြီး ၃ နှစ်အကြာမှာတော့ ဝန်ထမ်းတွေထပ်ခေါ်နိုင်ပြီး ကိုယ်ပိုင်ဆိုင်ခန်းလည်း ဖွင့်နိုင်နေပြီဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

“ရည်မှန်းချက်ကောင်းကောင်း ရှိရမယ်။ ဖြစ်ချင်စိတ်ရှိဖို့လိုတယ်။ ဖြစ်ချင်စိတ်ရှိရင် အရာအားလုံး ဖြစ်အောင် လုပ်နိုင်ပါတယ်။” လို့ သူမကခံယူထားပါတယ်။

Tin Tin Oo started her hair salon business six years ago. When she first started, she faced challenges such as high shop rental costs due to rising prices and difficulties in hiring staff. Determined to grow her business, Tin Tin Oo took a loan from BRAC Myanmar. Now, three years after taking the loans, she has been able to hire more staff and open her own salon.

“You need to have a clear goal and the determination to achieve it. When you truly want to make something happen, you can make it happen,” she believes.

Youth Ambassadors အယောက် (၁၀၀) က ဘယ်သူတွေလဲ?

ဒီနေ့ သြဂုတ်လ (၁၂)ရက်နေ့ဟာ အပြည်ပြည်ဆိုင်ရာ လူငယ်များနေ့ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ BRAC Myanmar ရဲ့ ဝန်ထမ်း ၉၀ ရာခိုင်နှုန်းကျော်ဟာ လူငယ်တွေ ဖြစ်ကြပြီးတော့ လူမှုပတ်ဝန်းကျင်မှာ ငွေကြေးလိုအပ်နေသူများနဲ့ ငွေကြေးဆိုင်ရာ အသိပညာဗဟုသုတတွေနဲ့အတူ အကောင်းဆုံးဝန်ဆောင်မှုပေးနေကြပါတယ်။

ဝန်ထမ်းလူငယ်တွေကနေတစ်ဆင့် လူငယ်ချေးငွေအဖွဲ့ဝင်ပေါင်း (၂၅၀) ကျော်က Youth Rising Campaign မှာ လျှောက်လွှာတင်ခဲ့ကြပြီး၊ ဒီထဲကမှ Youth Ambassadors အယောက် (၁၀၀)ကို ပြန်လည် ရွေးကောက်ခဲ့တာဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဒီလူငယ် ၁၀၀ ဟာ သူတို့ရဲ့ အိပ်မက်တွေကို အကောင်အထည်ဖော်ဖို့ ကြိုးစားနေကြသူတွေ၊ ကိုယ်ပိုင်လုပ်ငန်းတွေကို တည်ဆောက်နေကြသူတွေနဲ့ အခွင့်အလမ်းတွေကို ဖန်တီးနေကြသူတွေ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဒီကမ်ပိန်းကနေတစ်ဆင့် ရှေ့ဆက်ပြီး BRAC နဲ့အတူ ကျွမ်းကျင်မှု၊ နည်းပညာနဲ့ ဒစ်ဂျစ်တယ်ဆိုင်ရာ သင်တန်းတွေကို လေ့လာသွားမှာဖြစ်သလို၊ Youth Referral Challenge ကနေတစ်ဆင့် အခြားလူငယ်တွေဆီကိုလည်း အခွင့်အလမ်းတွေနဲ့ အသိပညာတွေ မျှဝေပေးသွားမှာ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

လူငယ်တွေရဲ့ အိပ်မက်တွေဟာ သူတို့ရဲ့ ကိုယ်ပိုင်အနာဂတ်အတွက်သာမက သူတို့နေထိုင်ရာ ပတ်ဝန်းကျင်အတွက်ပါ အပြောင်းအလဲတွေကို ဖန်တီးပေးနိုင်တာမို့ အိပ်မက်တွေကို အခွင့်အလမ်းတွေနဲ့ ချိတ်ဆက်ပြီး ပိုမိုကောင်းမွန်တဲ့ အနာဂတ်ကို အတူတကွ ဖန်တီးကြရအောင်။

Who Are the 100 Youth Ambassadors?

Today, August 12, marks International Youth Day. At BRAC Myanmar, more than 90% of our staff are young people, working to provide quality financial services and financial knowledge to people in need across communities.

Through our young staff, more than 250 young clients applied to participate in the Youth Rising Campaign. From these applicants, 100 young people have been selected as Youth Ambassadors. These 100 Youth Ambassadors are young people who are pursuing their dreams, building their own businesses, and creating opportunities for themselves and others. As part of the campaign, they will continue their journey with BRAC through skills development, technology, and digital training. Through the Youth Referral Challenge, they will also share opportunities, knowledge, and learning with other young people.

The dreams of youth can create change not only for their own futures, but also for the communities they live in. Let’s connect dreams with opportunities and work together to build a brighter future.
