Free Medical Service Camp in Thanlyin

Yesterday, FIN Myanmar and Olive Pharma jointly organized a Free Medical Service Camp in Thanlyin Township — bringing much-needed healthcare support directly to the community.

We were deeply honored to have two distinguished specialists leading the camp:

🌿 Professor Dr. Yadanar Kyaw
Senior Consultant & President, Thoracic Society

🌿 Professor Dr. Yee Yee Naing
Senior Consultant

With their extraordinary dedication and generosity, the Professors provided medical treatment to 207 critical patients from the Thanlyin community. Their compassion, expertise, and commitment made a life-changing difference for many families.

FIN Myanmar team and the Thanlyin community are truly grateful for their kindness and service.

A heartfelt thank you to Olive Pharma for providing free medicines to all patients, ensuring that every person received complete care without financial burden.

Together, we continue our mission to support vulnerable communities with dignity, solidarity, and hope. 💛

🌟 Weekend Moments at FIN Myanmar’s Children Clubs 🌟

Every weekend, our Children Clubs come alive with play-based learning and joyful activities. For the past year, children have been exploring, creating, and discovering through games, storytelling, art, and teamwork.

The changes are remarkable:

- Children are becoming more confident and smart in their thinking

- They are more regular and creative in class

- And heart-warming to see—several children who had dropped out have now re-joined school

These clubs are more than just weekend gatherings—they are safe spaces where children learn, grow, and rediscover their love for education.

Together, we are building brighter futures for children in Yangon.

Yesterday, we had the privilege of witnessing a powerful moment of community-led accountability. At the closing event of our project in Thanlyin, women beneficiaries came together to share their experiences, reflect on the changes brought by the project, and critically assess its implementation.

Their honest feedback, bold ideas, and future plans reminded us what true empowerment looks like — when communities take ownership not just of the benefits, but of the process.

Sincere thanks to the Chargé d'affaires of the French Embassy in Myanmar and Team and the team from UNDP Myanmar for joining us and engaging directly with the women.

We look forward to sharing the insights from this journey and hope to see this locally driven model adapted in other peri-urban community.

Investing in Nutrition, Led by Women: A Model of Social Enterprise

In the heart of Thanlyin’s peri-urban community, 60 families have come together to form a powerful collective action.

This women led rice trading initiative that not only reduces the cost of staple food by 25%, but also frees up household income to invest in essential nutrition—fish, meat, eggs, and vegetables—ensuring their children and families can thrive.

This isn’t just a business—it’s a movement. A model of how women’s leadership, when organized and resourced, can deliver real, measurable change in community well-being, resilience, and dignity.

When women lead, communities eat better, live better, and grow stronger.

"If we can have mobile clinics, why can’t we have mobile psychosocial support for children?"

In the aftermath of the recent earthquake, our FIN Myanmar team brought pop-up play corners to a displacement camp in Mandalay—creating moments of joy, emotional safety, and connection for over 150 children. From ball games and storybooks to breathing exercises with soft toys, every activity supported children's well-being in the midst of crisis.

We also trained local youth and handed over play kits to ensure this support continues—led by the community, for the community.

Read the full report on how play can be a powerful tool for psychosocial support, resilience, and recovery in emergencies.

At the corner of camp 871, something caught my eye, a small group of children huddled together, completely absorbed in what they were doing.

They were playing with scraps of wood likely collected from the rubble. At first glance, it just looked like any other child's play. But as we got closer, we saw how intentional they were. They were stacking the wood pieces, laying them out in different patterns. It wasn’t random. They were building.

We approached them and asked one of the little boys what he was making.
He looked up and said, “I’m making a house.”
So we asked, “Who’s going to live in your house?”
He replied, “My house is break down. I want to build a house. Two houses together, one for my family and one for my friends. It’s with brick and I will paint it like teacher’s color.” (He pointed at the white colour on our FIN Myanmar t-shirt)

Around him, other children chimed in. One said he was building a bed, another a chair, a stool, and even a tall building.

I was in Mandalay with the FIN Myanmar team, responding to the earthquake and these children's play struck me deeply, something that felt almost symbolic of everything these children are going through.

This isn’t a feel-good story. I’m sharing it because it reveals something far more profound: the quiet aspirations of children who are living through every single moment of this disaster, not just surviving it, but somehow, in their own small way, trying to rebuild what’s been lost.

Even in the face of fear, displacement, and uncertainty, these children are dreaming, rebuilding, and imagining safety—not just for themselves, but for the people they love.

Pop-up Play Corner: Healing Trauma Through Play

In Mandalay, where communities are still reeling from the recent earthquake, FIN Myanmar is responding with a child-centered solution: the Pop-up Play Corner.

This flexible, low-cost, and community-driven toolkit is helping volunteers create safe spaces where children can play, express, and heal.

With storytelling, emotional cards, drawing, singing, and movement games, children are able to regain a sense of normalcy, connect with others, and rebuild emotional resilience.

Anyone with empathy, patience, presence, and playfulness can create a Pop-up Play Corner — under a tree, in a classroom, or on a mat. It's not about fixing everything, it's about being present with love and care.

Prepared by Education Advisor of FIN Myanmar and her team, this guide is now being used to train community volunteers in Mandalay on trauma healing for children.

Because every child deserves a space to feel safe, seen, and supported.
