Today marks one month since the devastating earthquake that affected millions of people across Myanmar. The disaster disrupted families, lives, livelihoods, and properties - but not the spirit of the Myanmar people.

From Day 1, the frontline responders have been the people of Myanmar on the ground. Their leadership, resilience, and united actions have been crucial to the rescue, rapid response, and relief efforts.

Today, as we commemorate the lives lost and the suffering endured, we also honour the local actors and volunteers who stood together in solidarity and action.

OiM remains committed to standing alongside people in need and local actors - now and in the future.

Oxfam in Myanmar together with local partners have been providing immediate assistance for families in the most vulnerable and hard-to-reach villages affected by the earthquake in Inle lake in Nyaung Shwe. We will continue expanding this emergency relief and recovery work particularly focusing on shelter, water sanitation, latrines facilities, and economic recovery as part of our long-term commitment.

The people of Inle lake are now thriving to rebuild — their homes, their towns, their future. We will be accompanying them in their journey with our tremendous dedication to strengthening local-led humanitarian action.

In the heart of destruction, we witnessed something extraordinary — not just the raw power of nature, but the unshakeable spirit of the people it tried to break. The epicenter may have marked the beginning of devastation, but it also became the starting point of resilience. Homes were lost, livelihoods are disrupted, and yet, from the rubble, communities rose — stronger, united, determined to rebuild. This is more than a story of survival. It’s a tribute to the human spirit, to the hands that helped, the hearts that healed, and the hope that never gave up.

Your support to them will enable faster recovery of their life, creating better future for all.
