One persons garbage is another piggy’s treasure! I was going through some of the folks old blankets, taking out the ones that have seen better days, so we can get ready for nice new ones! These were sitting on the bottom of the stairs, and Sunny, Olive and Jadie decided that they could still put these “blankets” to good use! And of course. At the main intersection of the barn 😂

Our 15,000th adoption 🥹❤️‍🩹🎉

This is Milly, and she is very, very special.

Rescued from an egg farm, she would have lost her life at only 18 months old, a mere quarter of her natural lifespan.

But because of this community supporting our Rescue Hen Adoption Days, she was saved and adopted 🤎

But more than that, she marks a huge milestone for us. Last year we hit 10k adoptions, and in this short time we have already surpassed our next goal! 15,000!

15,000 lives that have been saved, transformed and protected. None of this would be possible without you.

We unexpectedly said goodbye to beautiful Briar Rose this morning. 🌹💔 Sanctuary is hard. Saying goodbye to each one is saying goodbye to family and hopefully in the end you know they had a good life while they were in your care and knew love, kindness, safety, and peace. Our time with Briar Rose was short; not even a year. When she arrived she had lost all of her sheep family and her humans were aging and had to move on. She was certainly scared and sad. She had arthritis as an old lady. We wanted her to have a family again but she was not at all comfortable with the herd and preferred to keep to herself. She ended up safely next to them in her own little spot where she could be near them but not in the same space. She seemed happy there but we worried about her being lonely. Her arthritis got worse and she struggled more to walk and we worried about her comfort, tried our best to manage her pain and helped her up until a few weeks ago when she just couldn’t get up anymore. We talked and talked about the best options for her and were working on a wheelchair for her but when she finally didn’t struggle to get up she seemed very comfortable and peaceful. We carried her out each day, tucked her pillow around her and she enjoyed lying in the shade contentedly nibbling clover. Yesterday she spent the beautiful day out in the fresh air, nibbling her clover, ate her supper, and we tucked her in for the night on her pillow. This morning we found that she had passed during the night and was just as we left her, like a precious doll, peaceful on her pillow. We are certain she had a gentle walk over the rainbow bridge. 🌈 We are grateful to know she is no longer struggling and relieved that we didn’t have to make the choice to help her on her way. We are also sad because we will miss her sweet face and wish we could have done better for her. Sometimes it feels like we just can’t do enough in a world with limited resources for farmed animals and it’s just unfair and wrong. I hope she knew we loved her and tried. Go catch up with your family now sweet girl. Run free and munch all the clover. We love you and will scratch your little chin again on the other side. 🌹🌈🍀
