Last year, we set up and distributed 57 filters for families in Ngwe Saung with Surf Association of Myanmar, helping provide clean drinking water to more than 250 people living along the coast.

Before we left, we left behind a few additional filters for the surfers to set up and distribute themselves. Part of our goal is to empower local youth to continue the work long after we leave. Along with those distributions, they’re also carrying out follow-up surveys with families we originally worked with.

Here’s a little video they made from one day of those setups as they cruised through their fishing town.

This kind of work gets us so stoked. It gives us hope that local youth can continue leading this mission in their own communities, and we’re grateful for everyone who has been part of making it possible.

WATA Wednesday | Ambassador Spotlight💧

This is Lillian and she is one of our Ambassadors in Guatemala and a student at Long Way Home Hero School.

These photos are from Water Filter Day during our most recent trip, where she helped teach families how to set up, use, and backwash their water filters.

This is actually Lillian’s second year as an Ambassador, and we’re super stoked that she’s continued being part of the program. Over the past two years, she’s built a great understanding of the filters and the work we’re doing, and it’s been amazing to see her share that knowledge with families in her own community.

This is the kind of system we’re striving to build.

A system where local students can become Ambassadors and help support their own communities. Teaching families how to use their filters, helping with follow-ups, troubleshooting issues, answering questions, and continuing the work while we’re gone.

We’re stoked to keep growing with not only Lillian, but also the other awesome Ambassadors at the Hero School. We’re really grateful for their part in all this!

Your support helps us support students like Lillian because the future of WATA depends on local leaders having the opportunity to keep learning, keep teaching, and keep supporting their communities long after a trip is over.

Earlier this year, we met the team from while tabling next to each other at a .club event at

What started as a conversation eventually turned into support for our recent trip to Guatemala.

For that whole week, their unsweetened lemon+lime hydration mixes lived in my backpack.

Every morning started with a packet mixed into a water bottle before heading out for the day. They came along on long drives, distribution days, and community visits, and were always there when someone needed a little extra hydration after a long day in the field.

Clean water is at the center of what we do, but every trip is supported by a network of people and organizations contributing in different ways. This was one of those contributions that quietly became part of our daily routine.

Grateful to the team at Scratch Labs for helping fuel the journey, and stoked to keep building the relationship moving forward in more countries

Backflushing helps keep a filter working properly and can extend its life for years. That’s why we focus not only on installation, but also on training, follow-ups, and making sure families know how to care for their systems long after distribution day.

What started with an email and 50 water filters has grown into something we never could have imagined.

During this trip to Comalapa, Guatemala, we distributed more than 200 water filters to over 200 families, helping bring access to clean drinking water to roughly 1,000 people.

But the filters are only part of the story.

What made this project meaningful was the people behind it. Volunteers, community leaders, students, and partners came together around a shared goal and turned a simple idea into something much bigger. Through our partnership with , we also helped establish 28 student Ambassadors who will continue supporting families, conducting follow-up surveys, and helping us stay connected to the community long after we’ve returned home.

This short film captures Water Filter Day as it happened, on the ground, in the homes, and alongside the people who made it possible.

A huge thank you to . Brother, thank you for bringing your creativity, energy, and perspective to this trip. From the early mornings to the long days in the field, you were always willing to jump in wherever needed. This video is a reflection of the care and intention you put into documenting these moments, and I’m grateful you were part of the experience. Stoked for the adventures and stories still ahead. We love you!

Huge thank you to for putting together this beautiful 5-minute video from our first trip to Colombia with .collective

Over four days in La Guajira, we worked alongside Wayuu communities to help distribute 150 water filters, train families on the systems, and begin establishing local ambassadors who are continuing follow-ups and checking in on filters over time.

Really grateful for everyone who supported this project and helped make it possible. Stoked to have Ivan joining us again soon for our upcoming Guatemala trip.

A couple months ago, we were in Colombia for the first day of our trip with .collective 🇨🇴

The first families received their water filters, and we spent the day teaching setup, safe water storage, and how to backflush and maintain the systems long term.

A lot of this work is practical, buckets, hoses, filters, training. But the moments we remember most are usually the ones that happen inbetween!

At the end of the day, the community surprised us with handmade Wayuu Mochilas as a thank you. Something none of us expected, but will help provide water filters to more families!

Some of the women from this first group have since become W.A.T.A. Ambassadors and recently completed their first round of follow-ups in their communities. We’re excited to start sharing more from that process soon.💧
