Since the devastating earthquake struck Myanmar, communication has been difficult, including in Mandalay, making it hard to assess the true extent of the damage.

The number of people killed has now risen to 2,056, with more than 3,000 injured, and many still trapped beneath the rubble as rescue efforts continue.

At the same time, airstrikes have been reported in Bamaw Township (Kachin State) and Naungcho Township (Northern Shan State), raising concerns about the prioritisation of military operations over urgently needed humanitarian aid and disaster relief.

With entire communities struggling to recover, the lack of clear information and resources further deepens the crisis.

In the aftermath of Myanmar’s devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake, local residents and rescue crews are working desperately to pull survivors from the rubble.

At Mandalay’s Sky Villa Condo, five floors have collapsed underground, with people still trapped beneath the debris. Cries for help can be heard as exhausted volunteers and emergency responders use whatever tools they can find to clear the wreckage.

The full scale of destruction in Myanmar remains unknown, as some of the hardest-hit areas are still unreachable. Communications have been cut, and roads are blocked, leaving thousands stranded. Many affected regions were already isolated by the ruling military junta, further complicating rescue efforts.

Despite the urgent need for humanitarian relief, the military junta has continued aerial bombardments in conflict areas, just hours after the earthquake struck.

As families search for their loved ones and communities struggle to recover, the ongoing attacks have sparked outrage, with growing calls for an end to military operations to allow emergency aid to reach those in need.
