“I had come too far to go back home to the same life I left behind. So I decided to take a gamble.”

Lured by a dream job offer as a tailor for a luxury brand abroad, Sophia immediately accepted a fake job offer a Telegram recruiter despite. 💼 While in transit, she was told the original offer was canceled and was moved across borders in Southeast Asia with promises of alternative employment. Upon arriving at her destination, she was taken to a remote, guarded compound without her consent and trapped inside.

This is a true story. The name has been changed to protect the individual’s identity.

Be cautious of fake recruiters online. Subtle red flags, like informal recruitment, missing contracts, and sudden mid-transit changes, can be key warning signs to recognize before it’s too late.

နိုင်ငံခြားက နာမည်ကြီး အထည်ချုပ်လုပ်ငန်းတစ်ခုမှာ အထည်ချုပ်ရာထူးနဲ့ လုပ်ရမယ်ဆိုတဲ့ တယ်လီဂရမ်က လူခေါ်ပွဲစားရဲ့ အိပ်မက်ဆန်တဲ့ကမ်းလှမ်းမှုအတုနဲ့ လှည့်ဖြားမှုကို ဆိုဖီယာတစ်ယောက် ချက်ချင်းလက်ခံခဲ့မိပါတယ်။

မိခင်ဖြစ်သူကို ထောက်ပံ့ဖို့နဲ့ သူ့ရဲ့အနာဂတ်ကို တည်ဆောက်ဖို့ ရည်ရွယ်ချက်နဲ့ တက္ကသိုလ်ကျောင်းဆင်း အလုပ်သင်ဖြစ်သူ ကိုမင်းက အိပ်မက်ဆိုးအဖြစ် ပြောင်းလဲသွားမဲ့ အလုပ်ခေါ်စာတစ်ခုကို လက်ခံခဲ့ပါတယ်။ အလုပ်ဆီ ရောက်တဲ့အချိန်မှာ သူ့ဖုန်းနဲ့ ပတ်စ်ပို့ကို သိမ်းဆည်းလိုက်ကြပါတယ်။

Story #4 — Ko Min’s Price

“Do you know how much I was worth? For months, I was treated like a commodity. I was bought and sold.”

Hoping to support his mother and build his future through a university internship, Ko Min accepted a job offer that quickly turned into a nightmare. Upon arrival, his phone and passport were confiscated, trapping him inside a compound where he was forced to work under threat and fear to hit impossible s-c-a-m targets. When Ko Min and his friends attempted to escape, they were caught, locked up, and severely b-e-a-t-e-n. The punishment also took a friend from him. Ko Min was resold to another scam compound, enduring months of dehumanizing captivity before finally finding a chance to run away.

Although he managed to escape and save his life, the trauma of being treated like a commodity left deep scars, leaving him with a long journey to heal, recover, and rebuild.

Failure to achieve targets were faced threats of brutal beatings. For two months, he was trapped, terrified, and forced to work for just $500 a month. Then, the authorities raided the compound. Story #3 — Abebe’s survival

“I didn’t expect to be trafficked into scam compounds when I took the job offer.”

Promised a $1,500 monthly salary for a customer service role, Abebe was recruited through Telegram and even passed English and typing tests that made the offer seem legitimate. After paying $1,000 for his visa and travel, he was secretly transported across the border, where traffickers confiscated his passport and phone. Inside the compound, he was forced to work 16 to 18 hours a day committing online scams to pay off a fake, ever-increasing debt— enduring beatings, tasing, and threats of death or organ harvesting whenever he missed his targets.

Though he survived the compound, the experience stripped him of his dignity and left deep emotional wounds that he is still trying to heal from.

ဇာတ်လမ်း #3 — အာဘီဘီ၏ လွတ်မြောက်မှု

“ဒီအလုပ်ကို လက်ခံတုန်းက အွန်လိုင်းလိမ်လည်မှု (ကျားဖြန့်) လုပ်ငန်းတွေဆီ လူ-ကုန်-ကူးခံရမယ်လို့ လုံးဝ မမျှော်လင့်ခဲ့ပါဘူး။”

လူ-ကုန်-ကူးသူတွေက ဝန်ဆောင်မှုအလုပ်အတွက် တစ်လကို လစာ ဒေါ်လာ ၁,၅၀၀ လစာပေးမယ်လို့ ကတိပေးပြီး အာဘီဘီကို တယ်လီဂရမ်ကနေ ဖြားယောင်းခဲ့ပါတယ်။ လူ-ကုန်-ကူးသူတွေက အင်္ဂလိပ်စာနဲ့ ကွန်ပျူတာ စာရိုက်နှုန်းတွေကို စစ်ဆေးပြီး အလုပ်အတုကို အစစ်လိုပုံမှားရိုက်ပြီး လှည့်ဖျားခဲ့ကြပါတယ်။

ဗီဇာနှင့် ခရီးစရိတ်အတွက် ဒေါ်လာ ၁,၀၀၀ ခန့် ပေးချေခဲ့ရပြီးနောက် သူ့ကို နယ်စပ်ကနေတစ်ဆင့် တရားမဝင် ခိုးထုတ်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။ အွန်လိုင်းလိမ်လည်မှု (ကျားဖြန့်) လုပ်ငန်းဝင်းထဲ ရောက်တဲ့အခါ သူ့ရဲ့ နိုင်ငံကူးလက်မှတ်နဲ့ ဖုန်းကို သိမ်းဆည်းခဲ့ကြပါတယ်။

တဖြည်းဖြည်း ပိုပိုတိုးလာတဲ့ အကြွေးတွေ ဆပ်ဖို့အတွက် တစ်ရက်ကို ၁၆ နာရီကနေ ၁၈ နာရီအထိ အွန်လိုင်းလိမ်လည်မှု (ကျားဖြန့်) အလုပ်တွေလုပ်ဖို့ အတင်းအကြပ် ခိုင်းခံရပြီး တားဂတ်မပြည့်တိုင်း ရိုက်-နှက်ခံရခြင်း၊ ဓာတ်လိုက်သေ-နတ်ဖြင့် တို့ခံရခြင်းနှင့် အ-သက်အန္တရာယ် ဒါမှမဟုတ် ခန္ဓာကိုယ်အစိတ်အပိုင်းတွေကို ရောင်းစားမယ်လို့ ခြိမ်းခြောက်ခြင်းတွေ ခံခဲ့ရပါတယ်။

ဒါက ဖြစ်ရပ်မှန် ဇာတ်လမ်းဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ သက်ဆိုင်သူရဲ့ ကိုယ်ရေးအချက်အလက်တွေကို ကာကွယ်ရန် အမည်လွှဲကို အသုံးပြုထားပါတယ်။

Looking for a better future, Joydeep was recruited by traffickers who lured him with fake promises of a great job opportunity. Instead, he was taken to an online scam compound and forced to execute scams, suffering electric shocks, beatings, and sexual abuse whenever he failed to meet his targets. Trapped in a cycle of debt bo***ge rather than earning a salary, he endured unimaginable suffering behind closed doors.

နော်အဲကို သူယုံကြည်ရတယ်သူတစ်ယောက်က လစာကောင်းတဲ့ အလုပ်တစ်ခု ကတိပေးခဲ့တယ်။ တကယ်တော့ သူဟာ အွန်လိုင်းလိမ်လည်မှု (ကျားဖြန့်) လုပ်ငန်းခွင်ထဲကို လူ-ကုန်-ကူးခံခဲ့ရတယ် တစ်ရက်ကို ၂၃ နာရီကြာ ညဆိုင်း အလုပ်လုပ်ခိုင်းခံရပြီး၊ မအိပ်ဘဲ အလုပ်လုပ်နိုင်အောင် မူး-ယစ်-ဆေးဝါးများ အတင်းတိုက်ကျွေးခံခဲ့ ပါတယ်။ တားဂတ်မပြည့်တဲ့အခါ အစာရေစာ မကျွေးဘဲ အခန်းထဲ ရက်ကြာ ပိတ်လှောင်ခံခဲ့ရပါတယ်။ အဲဒီနေရာမှာ မိုးလို့ခေါ်တဲ့ ကောင်မလေးတစ်ဦးက ဒီလိုဘဝမျိုးနဲ့ ဆက်နေရမည်ကို မခံနိုင်တော့ဘဲ ခြောက်လွှာမြင့် ပြတင်းပေါက်ကနေ ခုန်-ချသွားခဲ့တာကို နော်အဲ တွေ့ကြုံမြင်တွေ့ခဲ့ရပါတယ်။

Naw Eh was promised a good job by a family friend. Instead, she was trafficked into a scam compound, forced to work 23-hour overnight shifts, drugged to stay awake, and locked away without food or water when she couldn’t meet her “targets.” She watched another girl, Moe, j-u-m-p from a sixth-floor window rather than keep living it.
