Bamako is calm despite continuedthreat of general insecurity in Mal. The sseasonal weather still very agreeable.There is still difficulty accessing fuel for vehicles and there are frequent elecricity outages. Internet connexion is stable.
An article Mamoudou Nango and Erica Pomerance have co signed written by fashion design professor Jeannine Diego will soon be published in the Springer Journal. It descrbes in detail the process and outcome of the on-line indigo dyeing workshops we gave for her VCU Fashion Design class last February .We have also begun exchanging with the Penn Center in South Carolina that also specializes in indigo craft and traditional african culture as maintained alive in that state by the local descendants of West Africa. This is an exiting developement for the CEntre Indigo/CAPID and we are lookignforward to collaborating with tghem to further the culture.
Thanls to a recent partnership with DESI in Québec, the Centre Indigo/CAPID has embarked on some new initiatives in Mali's Dogon region: a 1-acre indigo garden has been planted in Bandiagara and soon to begin, a series of Social Entrepreneurship leardership training workshops for a dozen women indigo dyers who are leaders in the cooperative.
