The most important area of MaliMali's work has been in the field of health: we have organized four cataract operation campaigns with a team from Bamako which has operated 100 persons each time for free. We have also put in place several smaller endeavors in the field of eye health with our funding of several Trichiasis (trachoma) operation campaigns in the villages around Djenné. We have been sp
onsoring a well attended evening class for adult literacy since 2008 by paying the monthly salary of M. Diarra, a Djenné school teacher. We are also sponsoring Madame Koita, a Djenné housewife who takes in orphaned children, as well as giving a monthly allowance to the grandmother of a little severely handicapped boy. In addition there is a never ending stream of acute needs: peole have not enough money to buy the life saving medication nee'ded, they have not enough to buy the sack of rice which save's their family from starvation etc etc. We are a very grass roots, hands-on organisation and we try not to refuse anyone who has a genuine need of help. All these activities would not be possible if it were not for our overseas sponsors and we thank them all for their generous gifts.
