🤍 Thank you, Skopje, for the unapologetic energy, generosity, and solidarity you brought to NO APOLOGIES!

Together, we opened a space to revisit and reimagine one of popular culture’s most iconic moments — Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged concert — and to ask: what would it mean if such cultural memories were shaped through trans lives, bodies, and voices? What stories become possible when we tell them differently?

➡️ The journey continues: the final stop of the Balkan tour is Belgrade, on 9 June.

🎸How would things be if Kurt Cobain was a trans woman?

No Apologies begins from that destabilising question. Nirvana’s 1993 MTV Unplugged is retold through a q***r and trans lens, where memory shifts and identity is renegotiated.

In Emma Frankland’s work, concert, testimony and ritual blur into one: sound, autobiography and performance moving between intimacy and spectacle.

🔵 [MKD-ALB-ENG]Што е потребно за културата да опстои надвор од проектите, буџетите и политиките?

Во текот на овие два дена во Скопје, уметници, културни работници, активисти и меѓународни мрежи се собраа за да разговараат токму за тоа: како да се изградат културни екосистеми што се одржливи, поврзани и доволно силни за да ги поддржат независните гласови и иницијативи.

Во текот на првиот ден, разговорите беа насочени кон независната култура, јавниот простор, уметничката слобода, регионалната солидарност и потребата од долгорочна поддршка наместо постојано функционирање во режим на преживување. Форумот обедини учесници од Северна Македонија, Балканот и Европа со заедничка цел: да замислат културни системи изградени на основа на грижа, соработка и колективна отпорност.

Настанот Culture for Development Forum и South-East Satellite BEYOND meeting се организирани од Heartefact во соработка со Clubture, Kooperativa, A25 Cultural Foundation и Euradia.

Çka duhet që kultura të mbijetojë përtej projekteve, buxheteve dhe politikës?

Gjatë dy ditëve në Shkup, artistë, punënjës kulturorë, aktivistë dhe rrjete ndërkombëtare u mblodhën për të diskutuar pikërisht këtë, si të ndërtohen ekosisteme kulturore që janë të qëndrueshme, të ndërlidhura dhe mjaftueshëm të forta për të mbështetur zërat dhe iniciativat e pavarura.

Gjatë ditës së parë, diskutimet u përqendruan në kulturën e pavarur, hapësirat publike, lirinë artistike, solidaritetin rajonal dhe nevoja për mbështetje afatgjatë në vend të mbijetesës së vazhdueshme. Forumi mblodhi pjesëmarrës nga Maqedonia e Veriut, Ballkani dhe Evropa, me një qëllim të përbashkët: të paramendojmë sisteme kulturore të ndërtuara mbi kujdesin, bashkëpunimin dhe qëndrueshmërinë kolektive.

Ngjarja “Culture for Development Forum” dhe ngjarja “South-East Satellite BEYOND” organizohen nga Heartefact në bashkëpunim me Clubture, Kooperativa, A25 Cultural Foundation dhe Euradia.

What does it take for culture to survive beyond projects, budgets, and politics?

For two days in Skopje, artists, cultural workers, activists, and international networks came together to talk about exactly that - how to build cultural ecosystems that are sustainable, connected, and strong enough to support independent voices and initiatives.

During the first day, the conversations focused on independent culture, public space, artistic freedom, regional solidarity, and the need for long-term support instead of constant survival mode. The forum gathered participants from across North Macedonia, the Balkans, and Europe with one shared goal: to imagine cultural systems built on care, collaboration, and collective resilience.

The event Culture for Development Forum and the South-East Satellite BEYOND meeting, is organized by Heartefact in collaboration with Clubture, Kooperativa, A25 Cultural Foundation, and Euradia.

This activity is supported by the Culture for Development project of the Government of Switzerland, implemented by Heartefact.

𝑴𝑲𝑫: Како дел од независната културна сцена, знаеме дека промените не доаѓаат сами по себе. Форумот „Култура за развој“ и BEYOND: Сателит за Југоисточна Европа е наш заеднички простор за да покажеме колку е важен нашиот културен екосистем. ⚡️
Оваа пролет, Скопје станува точка на спојување каде нашиот глас добива директно влијание врз европските културни политики. Ова е можност за сите нас – наместо само да ги констатираме пречките, заедно да побараме модели за одржлива и долгорочна поддршка на независната сцена во Западен Балкан.
Зошто е важно да бидеш дел од овој собир?
🔹 Влијание надвор од проектите: Се фокусираме на суштинското влијание на културата врз општеството, надвор од стандардните проектни рамки.
🔹 За солидарност без граници: Се поврзуваме со колегите од Clubture (HR), Кооператива (регионална платформа), А25 (BG) и ЕуроАдиа (IT) за да го зајакнеме нашиот глас.
🔹 Европски дијалог: На иста маса седнуваме со највлијателните европски мрежи како Култура Акција Европа (CAE), Меѓународната мрежа за современи изведувачки уметности (IETM), Европската мрежа на креативни хабови (ECHN) и Европската мрежа на културни центри (ENCC), за нашите потреби од терен да стигнат до Брисел.
Соработката ги надминува границите. Независната култура е виталниот екосистем кој нè движи напред, а Скопје во овие четири дена ќе биде местото каде тоа ќе го потврдиме.
