At the recent International Association for Society and Natural Resources - Conference, Dr John Boakye-Danquah (Adjunct Professor, School of Environment and Sustainability, University of Saskatchewan) actively contributed to advancing conversations on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in environmental science and policy.
His participation included:
🎤 Leading two sessions on EDI—one workshop on EDI in science and another featuring social equity tools used by Canadian cities.
🌲 Delivering an oral presentation on the experiences of under-represented groups in professional forestry.
📌 Presenting a poster on the ForGEDI course, which generated engaging discussions on course accessibility, language availability, outreach strategies, and user engagement.
While EDI sessions had modest attendance, Dr. Boakye-Danquah appreciated the committed engagement from a core group of participants. Feedback highlighted the value of and the use of learner archetypes. Notably, a U.S. high school teacher expressed interest in adapting the course for her students—an exciting sign of growing impact.
The team is grateful for John’s leadership and representation at the event, and looks forward to continuing the collaboration.
