Pro Peace - North Macedonia

Pro Peace - North Macedonia Pro Peace North Macedonia aims to contribute to constructive public debates on dealing with the past through culture and dialogue.

Pro Peace (formerly forumZFD) has been active in North Macedonia since 2001, working to promote peacebuilding, dialogue, and social cohesion. Over the years, we have supported multi-ethnic education, non-violent conflict transformation, youth clubs, and interethnic cooperation in schools. Today, our focus continues through media, culture, and education addressing the legacies of conflict and chall

enging divisive narratives. Our ongoing work includes the Balkan Perspectives podcast, oral history publications, youth engagement, and the Dealing with the Past film program. We also support local NGOs in implementing these initiatives, creating space for critical reflection, inclusive dialogue, and storytelling on memory, history, and coexistence. In Germany, Pro Peace (formerly forumZFD) was established in 1996. It trains and deploys peacebuilding professionals to conflict-affected regions, where they work alongside local communities to promote peaceful coexistence and non-violent conflict transformation. Pro Peace carries out long-term projects in the Western Balkans, Ukraine, the Middle East, the Philippines, and in Germany. This work is financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)

25 Frames - Trailer (Documentary FIlm)

25 years, 25 stories, captured in 25 frames per second. Twenty-five different frames, one single picture — a portrait of an agreement that changed the trajectory of a young, multiethnic and multicultural state.

We set out to answer three simple questions: What led to the conflict of 2001? What did the Ohrid Framework Agreement change? And, 25 years later, is North Macedonia a better country for everyone?

We present the third episode of the Balkan Perspectives video podcast series.

In thе episode “Learning Together, Growing Together”, Slavica Jovcheska and Besa Ziba Rizvani, representatives of the civil society sector from Struga, discuss education—one of the key sectors that, following the 2001 conflict and the Ohrid Framework Agreement, had both the potential and the responsibility to foster meaningful change in coexistence, constitutional reforms, and their broader significance.
Drawing on their extensive experience in non-formal education, Slavica and Besa reflect on efforts to promote integrated education, the challenges posed by the lack of unified curricula for the country's two largest ethnic communities, and the role that non-formal education—often led by civil society organizations through educational programs—can play in strengthening relationships between young Macedonians and Albanians.

They also examine whether the Ministry of Education is making sufficient efforts to improve the education system and reduce divisions and inequalities.

🗣️A masterclass with Massimiliano Nardulli on writing in the world we live in.

📅 Thursday, 6 August 2026
🕕17:00–19:00
📍Europe House Struga

While history may unfortunately repeat itself without people learning from it, we are not necessarily bound to watch the same movies over and over. Developing a film—conceiving and then writing it—is therefore a vital necessity today. The responsibility of storytellers is therefore—now more than ever—enormous and significant. At the same time, a story must never be didactic or confused with a statement. A story has—or should always have—a connection to the magical, the sacred, and the human. We tell stories to keep living. For better or worse, this is what we have always done.

This event is a part of 's tenth edition and it is supported by Pro Peace - North Macedonia🔵
