🌍💧 From Knowledge to Action – Inspiring Future Eco-Leaders!

This week, EKOMENLOG, together with our partners from the Hydrobiological Institute Ohrid 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬, delivered an inspiring combination of lectures and field exercises for the students of Class 11C at Petrik Erasmus Akkreditáció a Szakképzésben in Budapest.

🌊 The students explored water conservation through an interactive lecture in English, followed by hands-on sampling at the boating pond in the city park. Back in school, they analyzed the samples and experienced real scientific work in action! 🧪

This activity is part of the professional preparation for the upcoming 3-week Erasmus+ programme in June 🚀 — and we’re just getting started!

Поради официјално предупредување од Хидрометеоролошкиот институт за обилни врнежи од дожд и снег, акцијата за садење садници планирана за 24 декември на локацијата кај Белчишкото Блато се одложува.

На 24 декември, на границата на Белчишкото Блато, заедно со ученици од

🏫 ООУ „ДЕБРЦА“ – с. Белчишта и
🏫 ОУ „Кочо Рацин“ – Охрид,

ќе засадуваме нативни дрвенести садници како природна заштита од пожари.

Акцијата е дел од програма финансирана од SDC и LFMWB,
📌 имплементирана од Farmahem, а проектот EcoFire Youth Ambassadors го реализира ЕКОМЕНЛОГ – Охрид.

📱 Паралелно, младите се вклучуваат и преку мобилната апликација EcoFire Youth, каде можат да учат, да пријавуваат пожарни ризици и активно да придонесуваат за заштита на природата:

🌳🔥 Ohrid is Planting Smart! 🔥🌳


📍 Where?
In the fire-sensitive zones of Debrca Municipality – Belchishko Blato peatland area near Ohrid 🌍

💡 Why?
Because traditional fire management isn't enough anymore. We're taking climate-smart action to prevent wildfires 🌡️ and protect both biodiversity 🌱 and local communities 🏡 by planting native, fire-resistant species in natural firebreak formations.

🌿 What are we planting?
A super-team of 7 native, fire-adapted species that resist ignition, break fuel continuity, and promote pollinator life 🐝🦋:

🔸 Quercus pubescens – Downy Oak
🔸 Prunus mahaleb – Mahaleb Cherry
🔸 Prunus spinosa – Blackthorn
🔸 Corylus avellana – Hazel
🔸 Cornus mas – Cornelian Cherry
🔸 Cornus sanguinea – Dogwood
🔸 Rosa canina – Dog Rose 🌹

🌱 How much?
Over 1,800 seedlings will be planted in strategic zones 🪵 using natural landscape features to enhance fire resistance, soil health, and habitat resilience.

🚜 With help from local forestry workers, schools, and volunteers, we’ll create a living barrier that doesn’t just stop fire — it welcomes bees, birds, and biodiversity! 🐦🐝🌼
