Berovo was a small village then, with 10-12 families. The family of Duiyo was respected as hardworking and wealth - having many lands, horses and ships. Duiyo had 2 sons- Stoyko and older Iliya ( married, having his own family ) and a daughter- Stana. Stoyko was a strong, young man.At this time all the Balkan Peninsula was captured from the Turks. There was a cruel Turk local ruler - kaymakanin.
He wanted to take Stana- beautiful young girl for a wife. To do any action in the Ottoman empire then, You need to have a permit. So Duyio took a permit before collecting the harvest wheat ( and leaving 10% of each harvest to the empire as tax ) from the kaymakanin, who told him that he want to take Stana soon. Duiyo unpleasantly heard it and with the permit in the hand, just looked with eyes dully. There was the end of the summer and Duiyo- with Stana, Stoyko and workers was on the field, collecting the wheat harvest. Duiyo sent Stana to the draw well. At the same time the kaymakanin had sent 2 soldiers to kidnap her. She started yelling and screaming, Duiyo and Stoyko heard her voice and went there quickly. Stoyko stronger than the 2 Turks didn't let them use the guns, killed them with an ax. They buried the bodies of the soldiers and burned their own bloody clothes. Duiyo told Stana and Stoyko to collect as much as they can from the housing which is valuable- to collect the horses and the ships. The only salvation was the escape. During these times if You are not in Your place- nobody from the authorities is searching You. There was no ID and documents. So Duiyo went with rakiya to the kaymakanin , knowing his habit to drink a lot. Knewing the local ruler would get drunk, wanting to gain 1-2 days for the escaping. So the Duiyo's family left Berovo in 1730. Going east from a hill to hill , preparing themselves as Turkish shepherds they reach a women monastery ( nunnery ). Stana left in the monastery. After 5 years hiding in the monastery - Duiyo and Stoyko continued their trip going east. Stoyko had several sons - one of them go back to Berovo where the lands of his gradfather are. One of them stayed in the new village - Nikudin. One of them went to Northern Bulgaria. After that my grandfather knows only the story of the one left in Nikudin village. If You know how the story of each continues - please write to me as personal message. My grandfather Serafim Duev ( 1913 - 2008 ) was telling me the story and wrote a modest story for the familia when I was a little kid! He was a priest in the village of Nikudin- close to Sandanski,Bulgaria, serving in the church more than 50 years. We have members of the familia in Bulgaria, Macedonia, Israel , Russia, Turkey, USA, UK ! Bring many of the Duev Family members into this group! Unity is power ! No matter where You are, be proud of the family name Duev- You wear. We have a long story - more than 300 Years !!!!!!! A family tree, which is very rare for the Balkans where the terriotiries are divided so often. And as my grandfather is finishing his modest story- Let's the story of Duev Familia be endless!!!!
