These encounters must be kept natural and done in respect for the animal. If you're lucky enough to see one, don't touch it, don't try to get close to it and especially don't feed it.
Just observe it, from a distance, and let it continue its wild life. In Reniala Reserve seeing a lemur on the loose is not a planned attraction. It's an encounter. A chance. A special moment with nature

🌍 ANIMALS OF MADAGASCAR - Zonosaurus quadrilineatus, the four-lined girdled lizard, is a lizard species native to an area of approximately 3,300km around Toliara in south-western Madagascar, and is found in dry habitats from sand dunes to forests.

195 wild animals are released back into the wild at the Reniala Reserve

On 19 September 2026, the Reniala Reserve took in 195 live wild animals that had been seized in Fianarantsoa as part of the fight against wildlife trafficking.

The animals were transported to Mangily by officers from the Fianarantsoa and Toliara branches of the DREDD. They were then officially handed over to the NGO Reniala to be released into a suitable natural habitat, in the heart of the Reniala Reserve’s protected forest.

The animals released included the following species in particular:

Furcifer verrucosus
Furcifer antimena
Phelsuma standingi
Mimophis mahafalensis
Madagascarophis colubrinus
Trachylepis petsleri
Zonosaurus quadrilineatus
Oplurus cyclurus
Chalarodon madagascariensis
Paroedura bastardi
Pygomeles braconnieri
Archaeohyris sp.

This operation demonstrates the importance of collaboration between environmental authorities and conservation organisations in combating wildlife trafficking and protecting Madagascar’s exceptional biodiversity.

Following their seizure and transport, these 195 animals have finally been released back into the wild. A powerful and hopeful moment for the preservation of our natural heritage.

The NGO Reniala extends its warmest thanks to the officers of the DREDD in Fianarantsoa and Toliara for their commitment and trust.

Wildlife is not a commodity. Protecting the forest means protecting life.
