What we do to help women and girls!

In 2014, in the Diocese of Toliara, we realised that girls were missing school one week a month, and many women were not able to leave their homes during the time when they were menstruating. We resolved to do something to help, so that girls would not miss education or stop going to school because they were so much behind the boys who could attend every day, and so that women could work and help feed the family every day of the year.

In 2015, we discovered Days for Girls and their wonderful washable, reusable sanitary products. In August 2016, we taught many women to make these kits. We now have a group who regularly sew DfG kits at the Women’s Center in the Cathedral complex in Toliara. Some of these women have never had jobs before, and are supporting many grandchildren and children as the sole income earners in their household.

We would love to sew every week of the year but to do that we need to sell the kits or receive grants and donations. Sadly, very few women and girls in the Diocese of Toliara can afford to buy these kits for themselves.

We sew whenever we have received an order for DfG kits, or have received money enabling us to make the kits and give them away for free.
