What does a healthy ecosystem look like, and where do we as humans fit in? This is the question the Nature Center students explored last weekend in their 🎨

One thing is for certain - healthy ecosystems are colorful and full of life! Flourishing forests and clean running water not only support the diverse wildlife of Ranomafana, but as student Sylverinah observed, allow us to continue to grow food, support new forests, and provide us with the resources needed for leading healthy daily lives. And, of course, a rainbow every now and then never hurts! 🌈

Last weekend, Rasolo joined VOI members Joseph & Remi in surveying where the new viewing platform for the Andriagna Twin Waterfalls will be built. This platform will serve as an important piece of infrastructure for the community, visitors, and school groups who want to learn more about this beautiful section of the community-managed forest 🌿

We’re beyond excited to welcome Madame Josiane Rakotonirina to our team as an Education Coordinator! Mme. Josiane brings decades of experience in conservation, natural resource management, and protected area management as former Director of Ranomafana National Park. Since early this year, she splits her time as an environmental educator across our nature journaling program and the Ecology 101 class run by our friends over at - both held at the Ranomafana Nature Center. We’re very lucky to have her on our team to share her expertise and passion for Ranomafana with the students! ✨🌳🎨

Herzlichen Dank to the Dresden University for the Fine Arts and Professor Barbara Wille for the opportunity to highlight the works and artists in Madagascar‘s contemporary art scene, Rasolo‘s journey as a self-taught Malagasy artist, and our explorations into the synergies between art and biodiversity conservation! We were very honored to meet with students and faculty & to see the incredible work in the studios 🎨

The Andregna is a stunning double waterfall just past the village of Ambatolahy, where VOI Mitsinjo is based. Nestled in primary rainforest, it is a source of beauty, life, and inspiration - as it was for & his sketchbook (swipe to see!) His painting also features an intricate Nelicourvi weaver nest and a Mantydactylus frog in full camouflage 🪺🐸 This delicate and unique ecosystem, as Rasolo writes in an excerpt from this blogpost, is diligently looked after by the members of the VOI. With your support, they can expand their conservation work into the next year and beyond 🌳💛

Support the VOI at the campaign in our bio, and check out the for the full blog!

As a tiny team of two, we often lose track of important dates - namely, 🙈

But Giving Tuesday or not, we are no less excited to share our campaign for VOI Mitsinjo, the grassroots collective caring for 440 hectares of rainforest in Ranomafana National Park! The members currently steward the Alandregna, an untouched core of primary rainforest, Vohitran’ny Mahalaigna and Vatolahidimy, both important cultural sites, and a section for reforestation and sustainable harvesting.

Since 2020, it has been the VOI’s hope to establish a regenerative ecotourism project here - in which money generated through tourism & research is reinvested directly back into Ambatolahy and other villages involved, creating an alternative model to that of larger national parks.

From now until the end of the month, you can help this project take shape in 2026! Your donation offers financial support in improving park infrastructure, training interested members as guides and rangers, and establishing signage, educational, and outreach materials that highlight traditional ecological knowledge and stewardship practices.

And if you're all Giving Tuesday-ed out, we understand! Even just sharing this post with friends and family is a massive help, and raises awareness of the awesome locally-led conservation work happening in Ranomafana, Madagascar 📍

Donate at the link below or in our bio,and happy ! 💛

The second floor of the oloNala is well underway! Here you can see the arched and rounded windows that face the forest on the other side of Namorona River. These will be fitted with stained glass mosaics, thoughtfully arranged in designs emblematic of Malagasy culture - featuring the Ravenala palm, and the rays of Masoandro (the sun) - translated as the „eye of the day“ ☀️ 💛
