Reforestation Update from Montagne des Français!
🌧🌨️☔️As the rainy season gets underway in northern Madagascar, the team of Madagascar Biodiversity Partnership (MBP), based at the Tangalavaka Field Station (TAFS) within the Montagne des Français (MDF) Protected Area, is actively working alongside local communities to advance our reforestation efforts.
With the arrival of the rainy season, our team has also begun preparing the nursery to produce thousands of seedlings for upcoming tree-planting activities.🌳🌳

Every seedling counts in the restoration of lemur habitats and the conservation of Madagascar's unique biodiversity!🌳

📚Since 1998, Dr. Edward Louis Jr. has been conducting research in Madagascar, with a particular focus on lemur species and their conservation.

Celebrating Chameleons and Forest Restoration in Madagascar! 🎉
✉️We invite you to discover the efforts of the entire MBP team during our tree-planting activities in May 2026, held in celebration of Chameleon Day!
⁉️Did you know? There are more than 234 known species of chameleons in the worldwide 🌎🌐, and nearly half of them are found in Madagascar, making the island a global hotspot for chameleon diversity.
⛺️📝During our surveys, we observed several chameleon species in our reforestation areas and within the KAFS forest, including Brookesia superciliaris in the photo, a remarkable species native to Madagascar.
Why does forest restoration matter?🌳🌳
🪐Restoring and expanding forest habitats is essential to protecting chameleon populations and supporting Madagascar’s unique biodiversity. By increasing forest cover and reconnecting natural habitats, we are helping create a healthier environment where these extraordinary species can thrive in the wild.

Crowned lemurs visit the MBP TAFS facilities every day, especially now that the facilities' mango trees are full of mango fruit.

The MBP teams feel like there is never enough videos to watch, so here is another one from Tangakavaka Firld Station! The mango is larger than this crown lemur's head, but weell worth it. We think the criwned lemur are working with cattle the local community let free-range, especially during the drier times like now. Crowned lemur grabs mango, eats part of it, and then drops the remainding leftover that the cattle graze on during the night and day time! Fresh and Natural Harvest from KAFS Garden🥬🍅

At KAFS, nurturing our garden is a cornerstone of Mama Mithra and her dedicated team’s daily efforts. This responsibility is embraced with great passion, bringing immense satisfaction as we witness the flourishing results—vibrant tomatoes, lush green leaves, fresh ginger, and more.

🧅🥒These homegrown crops play a crucial role for the MBP team, as we strive to cultivate a sustainable and diverse range of healthy vegetables right here on site. Our commitment is to provide natural, nutritious produce that supports well-being and environmental stewardship.

The MBP Mobile Construction Crew (MC2) arrived at the MBP Tangalavaka Field Station to improve the Tangalavaka Treehouse Bungalow. The Tangalavaka THB was upgraded with two extensions which enlarged the patio space and allowed for the installation of a bathroom. Additionally, the MBP added the doors, painted the exterior and interior walls, added trim around the windows and doors, and added a critical guardrail around the edges. We anticipate that the guardrail will become a highway for the crowned lemur groups. Next project will include the installation of the elevated walkway so guests can walk up to the Tangalavaka THB which will be much simpler than using a 5-meter ladder!!! Thank you to Conservation Fusion, Conservation Allies, Re:wild, and IUCN Save Our Species for the support and collaborative efforts to help the MBP reach the ultimate goal of self-sustainability and self-reliance!

Of course, when you visit Madagascar and places like Montagne des Francais, besides getting the chance to live among the forest habitat at the MBP's Tangalavaka Field Station (TAFS), guests and staff are visited by one of two large family groups of Endangered crowned lemurs (Eulemur coronatus). The lemurs like to visit around 5AM and 4PM, especially now with the mango trees which are the structural supports for the treehouse bungalows loaded with the delicious fruit! THANK YOU Conservation Fusion, Re:wild, Conservation Allies, and IUCN Save Our Species for the support and collaborative spirit that allows the MBP team to continue to protect and preserve the biodiversity of MDF!
