Every team member plays an essential role in maintaining the site and carrying out their responsibilities with dedication and commitment.

Their daily efforts contribute not only to environmental protection 🌳🌱 and site management, but also to the development of responsible ecotourism initiatives at KAFS.
Each team has its own important responsibilities, yet their success comes from working closely and hand in hand 🤝 to support the station’s daily operations and achieve a shared vision.
Together, they contribute to one common goal: promoting the sustainable development and long-term conservation of this remarkable area.🦋🐦

The Madagascar Biodiversity Partnership are thrilled to announce that today, August 19, 2026, the MBP and our partners reached a commemorative mark of planting 9,000,000 trees, marking an important milestone in our long-term commitment to forest restoration, biodiversity conservation, and community development.

To celebrate this achievement, we chose to plant Letchis ala (Raloto), Tina apiculta, from the Sapindaceae family, an endemic tree species of Madagascar.

This special event was honored by the presence of the Assistant Mayor, the President of the Federation of VOI Dadarama, the President of the Ambalahosy Sud Fokontany, one Ampanjaka from Ambalahosy Sud, Dadah from GAP, and many members of the KAFS team and SMC members, all who enthusiastically joined us for this important celebration.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all of our partners, especially Arbor Day Foundation, a collaboration that began in July 2014! We also like to shout out all of our partners Conservation Fusion, Re:wild, IUCN Save Our Species, Marat Karpeka Lemur Foundation, Brandywine Zoo, Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation, and Allies, who have supported our reforestation and conservation efforts for over 16 years in Kianjavato, Madagascar.

Official Launch of the IREMA Project!
We are pleased to share the official launch of the IREMA Project, which took place on August 12, 2026, in the Vatovavy Region of southeastern Madagascar.
Implemented over a five-year period, the IREMA Project aims to promote the sustainable restoration of ecosystems, strengthen local community participation, and contribute to improving the living conditions and livelihoods of communities across the landscapes of Tsitola, Ambohimanana, and Manakana-Nord.
Madagascar Biodiversity Partnership (MBP) is proud to contribute to this initiative through the Technical Assistance Facility (TAF), providing technical support to facilitate and strengthen project implementation. MBP works closely with DREDD, the IREMA Project team, VOI, and local authorities in Mananjary to support the successful implementation of project activities.
The IREMA Project is structured around four complementary strategic components:
1 Ecological Restoration
2 Governance and Inclusion
3 Economic Development
4 Monitoring and Sustainability
This important initiative represents a significant step toward building more resilient ecosystems while supporting sustainable development and strengthening the role of local communities in conservation.

The works closely with the forest rangers, and the gendarmerie to fight the illegal exploitation of timber and ensure the effective protection of forest resources.🌳
We recognize that such forms of human disturbance can negatively affect lemur behavior and may potentially lead to the degradation of their natural habitats.

In this regard, regular patrols are essential to safeguard both the species and their forest habitats.🦋🪾🦔
In addition, strengthening the capacities of VOI board members through regular training is crucial to improve their ability to participate effectively in forest management, law enforcement, and conservation efforts.

WORLD RANGER DAY!!! The MBP Kianjavato team celebrated with the community and its VOI Rangers by celebrating two reforestation events:
• The first activity was supported by Conservation Fusion, through
Jessica, Derrick Fitton, Holly, and Andy. Together with the forest
rangers of VOI Tsitola, we planted 1,000 native trees in East Tsitola.
• The second activity was supported by the Arbor Day Foundation, through the planting of 10,000 trees along the Corridor One restoration sites, including Antananibeloha, Tanambao Besakay, Vatovavy, Vintanona, East Vatovavy, Manakana Nord, and Ambohimanana.
In total, we planted 11,000 trees across eight locations.
We also trained the forest rangers on how to collect field data and
prepare patrol reports.
Thank you to Arbor Day Foundation and Conservation Fusion for supporting the reforestation events!!! The MBP also want to give a shout out to Re:wild who support the activities of the forest rangers from our three VOIs: VOI Tsitola, VOI Tontolo Maitso, and VOI Taratry Vatovavy.
This year's World Ranger Day theme in Madagascar is "Rangers: Guardians of a Changing Planet," highlights the increasingly complex challenges that rangers face as they protect biodiversity, respond to climate change, support local communities, and safeguard our shared natural and cultural heritage. This year, we encouraged all forest rangers to continue their dedication, courage, and professionalism in protecting the remaining forests. We also honored those who have been injured while recognizing the vital role that rangers play in conserving our forests by planting trees in their honor!

Within the Kianjavato Forest, our team successfully completed a re-collaring session for Prolemur simus (Greater Bamboo lemur) individuals in Sangasanga and Ambatoloaka this week. This important conservation effort allows us to monitor these critically endangered lemurs in their natural habitat, contributing to their long-term protection and well-being. It also helps prepare for the arrival of future visitors, who will have the unique opportunity to observe these remarkable endemic primates responsibly in the wild. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped us choose the perfect name for Brandywine Zoo’s newest baby lemur.

Kian’s name was inspired by Kianjavato’s rainforest in Madagascar, home to nine lemur species and the Kianjavato Lemur Project, which supports community-led conservation and reforestation efforts.

We are grateful to our community for being part of this special moment. We can’t wait to watch Kian grow and share more updates with you!
