One of the treasures of the Kianjavato Forest is Chrysalidocarpus ifanadianae (formerly Dypsis ifanadianae)🌴, a palm species known only from the Ifanadiana area. This slender, solitary palm can reach up to 24 meters in height.

The species is classified as Critically Endangered and is restricted to a very small area where forest clearing continues at an alarming rate. Some studies have reported fewer than fifty individual trees remaining.

At MBP, researches are ongoing to investigate the floristic richness of the station and mainly contribute to the conservation of its biodiversity.

🗺 Deep inside the Grewcock Ihofa Vohitsara Bioreserve (GIVB), in the Mantadia rainforest of eastern Madagascar.

Did you know?
- The Diademed Sifaka (Propithecus diadema) is listed as Critically Endangered, this species is also the largest of all sifaka species.
- A group of diademed sifakas can travel hundreds of meters each day, moving between the forest canopy and the understory in search of food.

At GIBV, our team has worked tirelessly since 2020 to restore degraded habitats and reconnect fragmented forests within the Andasibe Mantadia forest.

Some updates of the World Environment Day from Diego Suarez!

The Andavakoera Community came together to plant 3,000 native forest trees during this global celebration!
During the dry season, our team waters and cares for the newly planted trees until the rains return in December, which create green jobs for local communities.

Huge thanks to for supporting this program!

A glimpse of World Environment Day in Southwestern Madagascar 🌵🌱

Our team in Lavavolo, together with the local community, joined the global celebration of World Environment Day by organizing native tree-planting activities. These efforts contribute to the restoration of fragile habitats that support some of Madagascar’s unique endemic species, including Lemur catta (ring-tailed lemur), Propithecus verreauxi (Verreaux's sifaka), and Astrochelys radiata (radiated tortoise).

World Environment Day 🌳 under the theme : "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future."
The best solution to climate change? Nature itself.
That's why we got to work.

On this celebration, we planted 16,300 trees along the Corridor : KAFS to Vatovavy Forest and across multiple locations: Ambodivoangy, Ambolotara, Vatovavy (+200 bamboo), Tanambao Besakay, Vohipotsy, Ambohimanana, Manakana Nord, and Tsitola.

❗️World Environment Day matters now more than ever as the world faces serious environmental challenges.

🔎Deep in the forests of Kianjavato where the team has just captured a group of Red-fronted brown lemurs (Eulemur rufifrons)!

The red-fronted lemur is one of seven subspecies of brown lemur. Although this species can be found whether in dry, tropical forests in western Madagascar or moist lowland and montane forest in eastern Madagascar, their population is in decline.

🔴 Why? They are hunted both for bushmeat and for the pet trade. This species is one of the most commonly hunted lemurs in the Kianjavato region. Other major threats to this species are habitat loss and degradation and fragmentation because of logging and livestock farming and ranching.
