𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫é𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐚𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐬 ?

🌳 Suite aux nouvelles concernant le Tsitakakantsa, le plus grand baobab de Madagascar, qui a perdu l’une de ses branches, signe de son déclin imminent,

DRY FOREST (ONG), ONG engagée dans la restauration des forêts sèches et dont l’emblème est le baobab, souhaite partager ses connaissances.

La durée de vie des baobabs est estimée entre 1000 et 2000 ans, ce qui en fait parmi les arbres les plus anciens du monde. En malagasy, leur nom « Reniala » signifie « mère de la forêt ».

Mais comme tout organisme vivant, le baobab n’est pas immortel. Aujourd’hui, il est menacé par la hausse des températures et les sécheresses prolongées liées au changement climatique, selon National Geographic.

👉 Comment préserver ce patrimoine naturel et culturel unique, symbole de force et de résilience, emblème de Madagascar 🌍 ?

Chez Dry Forest, nous avons planté 18 603 baobabs grandidieri l’année dernière, avec un taux de survie de 82 %.

👉La préservation des baobabs n’est pas juste réservée aux ONG ou aux entités, c’est l’affaire de tous.

🟠🟤“In Madagascar, we often talk about humid forests, but not enough about dry forests,” says Simon Rietveld, founder of the Zazamalala Foundation, an organization restoring the dry forests of western Madagascar. This is why he took the initiative to restore dry forests; a mission shared with the founders of DRY FOREST.

📅 On Tuesday, March 21st, the DRY FOREST team visited the Zazamalala Foundation park, located 35 km east of Morondava. During this visit, the team was able to observe the working methods of the Zazamalala Foundation in their large nursery, exchange techniques, and see some rare native tree species🌿.

📅Afterwards, on March 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, Lexje Rietveld from the Zazamalala Foundation accompanied the DRY FOREST team to Belo sur Mer to visit three of our nurseries and three restoration sites.

These exchange visits were facilitated by Gijs Kloek from Trees for All, a Dutch foundation that supports both organizations.

🟠🟤"À Madagascar, nous parlons souvent de forêts humides, mais pas assez de forêts sèches", selon Simon Rietveld, fondateur de Zazamalala Foundation, une fondation qui restaure la forêt sèche de l’Ouest de Madagascar.

C’est pour cela qu’il a pris l’initiative de restaurer les forêts sèches, une mission partagée par les fondateurs de DRY FOREST.

📅 Le mardi 21 mars dernier, l’équipe de DRY FOREST s’est rendue dans le parc de Zazamalala Foundation situé à 35 km à l’Est de Morondava.
Durant cette visite, l’équipe a pu voir les méthodes de travail de Zazamalala Foundation dans leur grande pépinière, a pu échanger de techniques et a pu observer certaines espèces d’arbres autochtones rares.

📅Puis, les 22, 23, 24 mars derniers, Lexje Rietveld de Zazamalala Foundation a accompagné l’équipe de DRY FOREST à Belo sur Mer afin de visiter 3 de nos pépinières et 3 zones de restauration.

Ces visites croisées ont été facilité par Gijs Kloek de Trees for All, fondation néerlandaise qui soutient les deux organisations.

🇬🇧 For 13 intense days, the Dry Forest team welcomed Gijs Kloek, project manager at Trees for All, a Dutch foundation and partner of our NGO.

🌱Together, we visited our 4 nurseries and 5 reforestation sites, as well as two of the most iconic landmarks of Kirindy Mitea National Park: the Baobab Cathedral and the Mitea dune🏞️.

Afterwards, we traveled to Belon’i Tsiribihana at the invitation of WWF Madagascar 🌍🇲🇬 to discuss a future project🌳.

📈This visit allowed to our valued guest to witness firsthand the progress of our activities and to provide valuable advice to improve our practices🌿.

Beyond its professional and formal scope, this joint mission was also an opportunity for Gijs Kloek and the Dry Forest team to deepen cultural understanding and build human and friendly ties🧡🤎.

Since October 2025, Dry Forest has established a community patrol and guarding system across 5 restoration zones, covering a total of 176.28 hectares.
In these vulnerable areas of the Kirindy Mite forest, the patrols play an essential role in preserving ecosystems and ensuring the regeneration of restored spaces.
This system relies on the commitment of several local stakeholders:

🌱 community patrol members
🌳 Polisin’ala (forest guardians)

Dry Forest trains, manages, supervises, and pays these patrol members.

Through this initiative, we are strengthening the monitoring of sensitive areas while promoting the involvement of local communities in the management of natural resources.

Depuis le mois d’octobre 2025, Dry Forest a mis en place un dispositif de patrouilles communautaires de gardiennage au sein de 5 zones de restauration couvrant un total de 176,28 hectares.

🤝 Nandray anjara tamin'ny fanatanterahana ny fambolen-kazo ireo vondron'olona ifotony tao amin'ny tanànan’Ankevo, Marofihitra, Ambararata, Antsira, ao amin'ny faritra Menabe.

🌍 Tao amin'ny faritra arovana ivelan'ireo tanàna ireo, sy ny faritra arovana Kirindy Mite ary ny manodidina azy no nanatanterahana ny fambolenkazo.

🌳 Karazan-jana-kazo maro samihafa no novolena, toy ny renala, anakaraka, katrafay, alamboronala.

🟤 Hisy ny fanaraha-maso ireo hazo novolena, na ireo tany anaty ala na ireo tany an-tanàna, ataon’ny vondron'olona ifotony sy ny DRY FOREST (ONG).

🇬🇧 71,711 young plants, nurtured in our 4 nurseries, have been planted by DRY FOREST (ONG) since February, marking the beginning of the 2026 reforestation campaign🌱.

🤝 The reforestation effort mobilized communities from the villages of Ankevo, Marofihitra, Ambararata, and Antsira in the Menabe region. It took place in restored areas located around these villages and within the Kirindy Mite protected area and its surroundings.

🌳 Several local species were planted, including giant baobabs trees, "anakaraka", "katrafay", and flamboyant trees.

🟤 DRY FOREST (ONG) and the grassroots local community are ensuring the monitoring of these young plants, both in the villages and in the forests.

🇫🇷 71 711 jeunes plants, soignés dans nos 4 pépinières, ont été plantés par DRY FOREST (ONG) durant le début de la campagne de reforestation 2026, depuis le mois de février🌱.

🤝 La reforestation a mobilisé les communautés des villages d’Ankevo, de Marofihitra, d'Ambararata, et d'Antsira dans la région de Menabe. Elle s'est déroulée dans les zones restaurées, situées en périphérie de ces villages et dans l'aire protégée Kirindy Mite et ses alentours.

🌳 Plusieurs espèces locales y ont été plantées, telles qu'entre autres des baobabs géants, des anakaraka, des katrafay, ou encore des flamboyants.

🟤 DRY FOREST (ONG) et la communauté locale assurent le suivi de ces jeunes plants mis en terre dans les villages et dans la forêt.

🟤Aujourd’hui encore, nos forêts continuent de disparaître chaque jour, entraînant la perte de notre biodiversité, aggravant le changement climatique et fragilisant nos communautés, notre avenir.
