🇺🇸 Strengthening the private health sector is essential to building a resilient and sustainable public health system.

📅 From July 21–28, 2026, MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership, funded by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by Jhpiego in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health, trained 15 healthcare providers from OMSI Toamasina, a private hospital, on Safe Obstetric Surgery (SOS).
This initiative will help expand access to standardized, high-quality maternal and newborn care, ensuring that more women and newborns benefit from safe, evidence-based, and lifesaving services.

▶️ This training marks the first in a series of activities that MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership will implement to strengthen the skills of healthcare providers in both the public and private sectors, contributing to sustainable improvements in the quality of maternal and newborn health services.

Sahondra Irenée had served as the District Technical Officer in Befandriana since January 2026, the month she joined the Jhpiego family.
“An upright and humble person,” say some; “full of love and worked with her heart,” say others.

We pay tribute to her dedication and the work she accomplished in support of public health in Madagascar.
We extend our deepest condolences to her family.

🇺🇸 Midwives Week began yesterday and will end on May 12. The city of Fort-Dauphin is hosting the official celebration this year.

Midwives play a vital role and bear a huge responsibility in Madagascar’s health sector, as they are the frontline workers in direct contact with communities. They very often manage primary health centers while providing care.

For many years, Jhpiego, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health, has supported midwives across the island through training and equipment. Currently, Jhpiego Madagascar is renewing its commitment as a partner to promote the work of midwives.

🇺🇸 Jhpiego is an organization dedicated to public health. It is known for its wide range of activities, particularly in the areas of maternal and child health, as well as the health of all family members.
In response to the new Mpox outbreak, Jhpiego is working closely with the Ministry of Public Health to vaccinate the population as a preventive measure. It goes without saying that the first steps are being taken among the staff.

💉The first round of Mpox vaccinations took place on Thursday, April 30, for staff at the central office, with a session led by senior management.
This was made possible through collaboration with the Analamanga Regional Public Health Directorate and its entire team, to whom we extend our gratitude today.

❗️Remember: prevention is better than cure, and vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and your family against diseases such as Mpox. Vaccination is not just for healthcare workers, but for everyone !
