The India-Madagascar Partnership 🇮🇳🤝🇲🇬

Rotary is truly a global network! We are thrilled to share some exciting Rotary International news from our latest meeting: the development of the India-Madagascar Inter-Country Committee (ICC) partnership.

As highlighted by PDG Shelly, this intercommunity collaboration will strengthen international ties, foster cross-cultural understanding, and open doors for impactful joint service projects between our nations.

By connecting across borders, we embody this year’s theme to “Create Lasting Impact” on a global scale.

Beneath the surface of our ocean, seas, rivers and lakes lies an extraordinary part of humanity's cultural heritage, from ancient shipwrecks and submerged settlements to archaeological sites and living traditions and knowledge connected to water.

Often unseen and difficult to access, this heritage bears witness to centuries of voyages, exchanges and shared histories. Yet it is increasingly vulnerable to looting, illicit trafficking, climate change, pollution and other growing pressures.

On 21 August, the first International Day for Underwater Cultural Heritage calls for stronger international cooperation to protect this irreplaceable source of knowledge and intercultural dialogue, and to ensure that its protection is fully integrated into the sustainable management of oceans, coastal areas and inland waters.

This year also marks 25 years since the adoption of UNESCO's 2001 Convention on the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage, which provides a framework for international cooperation, responsible research and the protection of submerged heritage from commercial exploitation and illicit trafficking.

Together with Member States, researchers, local communities and partners, UNESCO is working to safeguard for the benefit of humanity and future generations.

🎗️ The Final Stretch: Eradicating Polio in Madagascar

We are closer than ever, but the fight isn’t over yet. While polio eradication in Madagascar is within reach, two cases remain in the south of the country.

This week, the Government and the United Nations are rolling out a critical vaccination campaign in the south—because vaccination is the only way to prevent paralysis in our children.

💉 At Maroloko, we are standing behind this effort 100%.

We are also thrilled to announce that the District Governor will be joining us for World Polio Day to help bring massive visibility and mobilization to this final push! We won’t stop until the count is zero. 📍🌍

🚀 Action, Innovation, and Literacy at Maroloko!

We had an incredibly productive 3rd Statutory Meeting, and we are proud to share some major club milestones!

💻 Digital Leaders: Did you know the official Intervilles platform (interville.rotary.mg) was designed and delivered completely by our Maroloko team? We are also officially taking the lead on the upcoming Job Fair in Majunga!

📚 Education First: A huge thank you to Readnest Madagascar for joining us to present their inspiring project to bring a 20-foot container of books to Madagascar to boost English and tech literacy.

🤝 Community Action: Mark your calendars! Our dedicated August action is set for August 26th at Cernol, Talatamaty.
We are moving fast and making a difference. Let’s keep up the momentum!

🚀 Big things are happening at Maroloko!

Following our 2nd General Assembly, we are thrilled to share the latest updates on how our club is evolving to “Create Lasting Impact” in Madagascar:

🌐 Digital Transparency: Our official website, rcmaroloko.org, is now our “single source of truth.” From tracking attendance to anonymous voting on club decisions, we are using technology to stay efficient and transparent for all our members.

👧Youth Leadership: While our official Interact Club charter is set for June 2027, we aren’t waiting! We are officially opening our doors to teens aged 12 to 18 to attend our meetings, get a feel for Rotary life, and start leading today.
