EECMD’s first steps in the Western Balkans!

We are excited to share a new chapter in EECMD’s work: bringing our experience in democracy and civic education to the Western Balkans.

As part of the RE-ENGAGE Horizon Europe project, EECMD has developed a comprehensive Democracy School Framework for the Western Balkans, focusing on Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia.

The Framework is designed to go beyond formal institutional reform and look at how democracy works in practice. It combines democratic theory with practical learning and country-specific analysis, addressing issues such as political culture, democratic institutions, electoral systems, accountability, political integrity, disinformation, inclusive participation, democratic resilience, and European integration.

The aim is to provide political, civic and public-sector actors with practical tools to better understand democratic challenges, strengthen dialogue and accountability, and contribute to more resilient democratic institutions.

For EECMD, this is also an important step into a new region. Building on our long-standing experience in Eastern Europe and the wider neighbourhood, we look forward to developing new partnerships and exchanging experiences with democratic actors across the Western Balkans.

The Democracy School Framework for Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia provides a comprehensive roadmap for strengthening democratic governance beyond formal institutional reform.

Strong democracies are built through participation, dialogue, and trust.

Armenia's recent parliamentary elections are an important reminder of the role that active citizenship and democratic processes play in shaping resilient and accountable institutions.

Yesterday marked another important milestone for Democracy Festival Moldova, as the second edition brought together people from across the country under the theme "Democracy Through Dialogue."

What began last year as an ambitious idea inspired by Denmark's People's Festival Folkemødet is steadily becoming a meaningful democratic tradition in Moldova.

Throughout the day, citizens, civil society organizations, political parties, public institutions, youth representatives, and international partners came together to exchange ideas, discuss important issues, and engage in constructive dialogue about Moldova's future.

From thought-provoking panel discussions and interactive activities to meaningful conversations across different perspectives, the festival demonstrated the importance of creating spaces where people can listen, learn, and work together.

A special thank you to our partners Institute for Parties and Democracies (DIDP) and Danish Social Liberal Party (DSLP) for their continued support and commitment to strengthening democratic dialogue and participation in Moldova.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make this year's festival special.

We look forward to continuing to grow DemFest as a platform that brings people together and strengthens democratic culture in Moldova.

🇲🇩 Democracy begins with dialogue!

The Eastern European Centre for Multiparty Democracy (EECMD) invites you to the second edition of the Democracy Festival – DemFest Moldova 2026 — a vibrant day of discussions, ideas, music, and activities for all ages, with free access for everyone.

📍 Triumphal Arch Square, Chișinău

🕛 Starting at 12:00

Under the slogan “Democracy through Dialogue”, the festival will bring together political parties, civil society organizations, experts, youth, opinion leaders, and active citizens to explore the role of democracy in building a prosperous future in peace and freedom.

🎶 Enjoy interactive activities, thematic tents, engaging conversations, and a live concert with DARA and MAREJ.

Throughout the day, participating organizations will present their initiatives and activities, creating an open and accessible space for dialogue, civic engagement, and exchange of ideas.

ℹ️ DemFest Moldova 2026 is organized by EECMD with the support of the Danish Institute for Parties and Democracy (DIPD) and the Danish Social Liberal Party.

On 18 March 2025, the Eastern European Centre for Multiparty Democracy (EECMD) convened policymakers, political actors, and experts in Yerevan for the Launch and Presentation of Policy Papers: Armenia’s Political and Strategic Outlook.

This event marked EECMD’s first large-scale event in Armenia and the launch of its programming in the country, setting the stage for engagement and dialogue between the CSOs, experts community and policy makers.

The exchange of perspectives underscored both the complexity of Armenia’s evolving political landscape, changing foreign affairs environment and the importance of comprehensive inclusive dialogue.
