What is GLOW/TOBE Moldova? First, GLOW is short for “Girls Leading Our World” and TOBE is short for “Teaching Our Boys Excellence.” The GLOW program was started by PCVs in Romania about 20 years ago and has now spread to nearly 75% of all Peace Corps posts around the world. TOBE is a younger initiative, birthed from the recognition that if we are to successfully create a safe and empowering enviro
nment for all people, it is critical we educate both young men and women in order to promote their mutual respect and support. Working toward equality while recognizing the differences between genders, GLOW/TOBE Moldova has worked with youth from across the nation to create the following missions and focuses for the initiative. GLOW: Empowering young Moldovan women to become creative, confident, and action-oriented leaders in the workplace, community, and home. TOBE: Empowering young Moldovan men to become effective, respectful, and compassionate leaders in the workplace, community, and home. Focuses

-Increase courage and self-confidence to express opinion
-Cultivate youth’s vision for local and national development and progress
-Inspire youth to spend free time in a healthy manner
-Encourage youth to complete high school and pursue higher education
-Promote critical enjoyment of media
-Provide opportunities for inter-gender conversations
GLOW
-Encourage the critical assessment of one’s situation, treatment, and future
-Promote vision for women to be contributors toward their community’s and family’s better way of life
-Inspire impassioned and vocal community leadership
TOBE
-Model healthy masculinity
-Encourage hard work and professional aspirations
-Promote respect of authority
-Inspire volunteering for leadership roles in the workplace, community, and home
