Diplomacy on the rocks

Diplomacy on the rocks is an informal platform for the diplomatic community from Moldova.

Its aim is to use the potential of the community in order to promote social projects, charity and attitudes that can make a difference and change lives to better Eligibility and proceeding of becoming a member of Diplomacy on the rocks Club. The request to become a member of the Club is examined by the Managing Council upon submission of an Application form. Till February 2023, the Application for

m can be requested by email via [email protected], after February 2023 potential candidates can submit application after being recommended by active members of the Club. The Managing Council can inquire additional questions to potential candidate in order to determine his/her interests and potential contribution to fulfill the statutory scopes of the Club. Members of the Club are eligible to participate in informal events that aim to promote exchange of views, discuss relevant issues of foreign policy (under ”Chatham House” rules) and actively take part in promoting civic, cultural and educative initiatives under the umbrella of the Club. Members of the Club are forbidden to use the Platform in order to promote political views, political actors or politically affiliated subjects. Members of the Club are obliged to respect the internal rules (statutory provisions) and guard the reputation of the Club, otherwise they are excluded from the Club. Rule which is applied to people invitate to the events of the Club, otherwise they become a persona non grata to the Club. Members of the Club can become: representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the Republic of Moldova, members of projects that are financed by development partners of Moldova, members of the diplomatic service of Moldova, etc. Transparency is one of the key principle of the Club, thus activities and financial reports will be posted on the website of the Club (www.diplomacyontherocks.md). Likewise, any member of the Club can ask additional information on initiatives and financial transactions undertaken by the Club.

As part of the Joint Declaration of civil society organizations of the Republic of Moldova (https://diplomacyontherocks.md/debut/declarație-comună-pace-și-solidaritate-cu-ucraina), we reaffirm our solidarity with the people of Ukraine and call for peace grounded in international law, human dignity, and real security guarantees.

Four years after Russia’s full-scale invasion, civilians continue to pay the highest price. Peace cannot be built on force, ambiguity, or the sacrifice of human lives.

At Diplomacy on the Rocks, an initiative of the Public Association Proactive Diplomacy, we believe diplomacy must serve people — protecting democracy, human rights, and social resilience.

Moldova has shown humanity and unity in supporting Ukrainian refugees, and we remain committed to strengthening democratic values and civic responsibility.

🌟 One Month Later – A Joyful Update from Nimorinka! 🌟

It’s been a month since our special evening at the Nimorinka Distillery, and today we are thrilled to share the impact of your generosity.

Thanks to your donations and the auction proceeds, we not only reached our initial goal — we overcame it! Instead of helping two families, we were able to provide:

🐄 A cow for three families (one for each!)
🐓 Birds for several more families, ensuring food and sustainable support.

The joy on the faces of the families who received these animals is priceless — a reminder that together we can turn compassion into real change.

🙏 Once again, we extend our deepest gratitude to Mrs. Carmina Vicol and the Nimorinka team for their warm hospitality, to The Moldova Project for bringing this cause to life, and to each and every participant who contributed.

Your kindness has not only showcased the best of Moldova but also brought lasting happiness and dignity to families in need.

🌟 O lună mai târziu – Vești pline de bucurie de la Nimorinka! 🌟

A trecut o lună de la seara noastră specială la Distileria Nimorinka, iar astăzi suntem încântați să împărtășim cu voi impactul generozității voastre.

Datorită donațiilor și licitației organizate, nu doar că am atins obiectivul propus — dar l-am și depășit! În loc să sprijinim două familii, am reușit să oferim:

🐄 Câte o vacă pentru trei familii
🐓 Păsări pentru alte familii, aducând hrană și sprijin durabil.

Bucuria de pe chipurile familiilor care au primit aceste daruri este neprețuită — o dovadă că împreună putem transforma compasiunea în schimbare reală.

🙏 Mulțumim din suflet Doamnei Carmina Vicol și echipei de la Nimorinka pentru ospitalitatea lor, The Moldova Project pentru implicare și tuturor participanților care au contribuit.

🌟 O seară cu adevărat specială la Nimorinka! 🌟

Săptămâna aceasta am avut bucuria de a organiza un eveniment deosebit într-un cadru autentic moldovenesc, găzduit cu multă generozitate de dna Carmina Vicol, care ne-a deschis larg porțile distileriei Nimorinka.

Am fost întâmpinați cu multă căldură, am admirat priveliștea spectaculoasă, am degustat băuturi locale și fructe uscate produse de Monicol — toate într-o atmosferă prietenoasă și vibrantă.

Pe parcursul serii, invitații au descoperit Village Travel Bot și campania , ce promovează turismul autentic din Moldova.

🤍 Cel mai important moment al serii?

Împreună am reușit să atingem obiectivul propus: strângerea de fonduri pentru achiziția a câte o văcuță pentru două familii vulnerabile. Mai mult decât atât — suma colectată din donații și licitație va permite procurarea unui animal mai mic și pentru o a treia familie! Aceste acțiuni vor fi realizate în colaborare cu echipa The Moldova Project.

📌 Vom reveni în curând cu detalii despre familiile care vor fi ajutate — pentru ca fiecare dintre voi să vedeți impactul real al generozității voastre.

🙏 Mulțumim din suflet dnei Carmina Vicol și echipei de la Nimorinka pentru ospitalitate și implicare, precum și tuturor participanților — pentru că ați fost parte din acest efort comun de a promova Moldova și de a susține cauze sociale importante.

🌟 A Truly Special Evening at Nimorinka! 🌟

This week, we had the joy of organizing a memorable event in a truly authentic Moldovan setting, generously hosted by Mrs. Carmina Vicol, who warmly welcomed us at the Nimorinka Distillery.

We were greeted with kindness, enjoyed the breathtaking views, tasted local beverages, and sampled dried fruits produced by Monicol—all in a warm and vibrant atmosphere.

During the evening, guests were introduced to the Village Travel Bot and the campaign, which promotes authentic tourism in Moldova.

🤍 The most meaningful part of the evening? Together, we achieved our goal: raising enough funds to purchase a cow for two vulnerable families. Even more — the donations and auction proceeds will also cover an animal for a third family! These efforts will be carried out in partnership with the The Moldova Project team.

📌 We’ll soon share more details about the families receiving support, so you can see the real impact of your generosity.

Mission accomplished – a dream come true!

The Diplomacy on the Rocks Club is thrilled to share that the family with six children, for whom we organized a charitable event this April, has officially moved into their very own home!

Thanks to a tremendous collective effort and the incredible involvement of our community, we successfully raised over 250,000 MDL – the amount needed to purchase a safe, modest, and stable home. A place this family can now wholeheartedly call home.

💬 “All we want is a small space of our own, with light, water, a table for homework, and, if possible, a patch of land to grow vegetables.” – said the parents.
Today, that dream has come true. 🌱

🤝 This achievement would not have been possible without the support of our dedicated partners The Moldova Project, Sandro Livv, sponsors C1 Transportation, CRC Transport LLC, Melania Lefter, Maria Sweetnam, Valeria Bjorklund, Sheila Frawley, Shane Sweetnam, of course, all the generous individuals who attended our charitable event “Diplomacy on the Rocks: Generosity in Action” on April 10, 2025.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to every donor, guest, and supporter who chose to get involved. 💗

The new property includes two residential structures, five rooms, agricultural land, access to water, electricity, and gas – providing the essential conditions for a life of dignity.

Last week, with the support of the Club, an informal networking event was held in Washington, D.C., bringing together representatives of Embassies accredited in the U.S. and friends of Moldova.

During the event, the "Unexpectedly Cozy Moldova" promotional campaign was presented. Guests also had the opportunity to enjoy traditional Moldovan cuisine and sample Moldovan wines, generously offered by AtoZ Duty Free LLC.

The event took place at the premises of USIDHR and provided a wonderful occasion to bid farewell to Mr. Anton Lungu, who has completed his mandate in Washington, D.C. and will continue to promote the Club's objectives in Chicago.

The Club would like to express its sincere appreciation to its partners, USIDHR and AtoZ Duty Free LLC, for their valuable support in organizing this informal networking event.

A Heartwarming Evening: Diplomacy on the rocks - Generosity in Action

Yesterday, we had the privilege of taking part in a truly special event. Together with The Moldova Project and Sandro Livv, we brought joy to a vulnerable family who, just in time for the Easter holidays, will have the opportunity to move into a home of their own.

It was a magical evening. Guests enjoyed an art exhibition featuring works created by beneficiaries of The Moldova Project's support programs, and discovered the beauty and uniqueness of the handmade scarf-making process by SandroLivv.

The event was skillfully hosted by Sergiu Beznitchi, whose presence added charm and energy to the evening. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our main sponsors, CRC Transport LLC and C1 Transportation, whose generous contribution of 100,000 MDL played a key role in purchasing the house.

We are also thankful for the support provided by Combinatul de Vinuri "CRICOVA" S.A., Spirits Atelier , Selik, and Docsconsult MD.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of all participants, we successfully raised over 210,000 MDL. We at Diplomacy on the Rocks are truly grateful for this collaboration and proud to have brought hope to a family in need—guided by our motto: "Diplomacy can bring a positive impact."

The Club started the second edition of the sommelier course, once again dedicated to Moldovan diplomats. This program aims to further deepen their knowledge of Moldovan wines — one of the nation’s most distinguished export products — providing them with an invaluable tool to enhance their diplomatic efforts.

The 14 participants, comprising 10 diplomats alongside 4 supporters and sponsors of the Club, will embark on an enriched exploration of Moldovan wines. The course delves into the rich history, heritage, and unique characteristics of the wines, while also focusing on effective strategies to promote Moldova’s wine industry on the international stage.

The course continues to be led by renowned sommelier Druta Mihai, ensuring continuity and expertise in the training.

🍷 Sommelier Course for Diplomats: A Fascinating Journey into the World of Wine! 🍇

The sommelier course for diplomats concluded, leaving the 14 participants—10 diplomats and 4 supporters and sponsors of the Club—feeling inspired and enriched by their experience. This course allowed them to dive deeper into the world of Moldovan wines, enhancing their knowledge of one of the country’s most prized exports.

They began by uncovering the rich history of wine, learning about the origins of the word "sommelier"—first used in France in 1316. A significant moment was discovering the creation of the Sommelier Association in Moldova in 2011, a key step in promoting Moldova’s wine industry on the global stage.

Throughout the course, participants explored the art of identifying wine aromas and recognizing the best harvest years. They learned how to interpret wine labels and, most importantly, how to select a high-quality wine. They were particularly impressed by the importance of storing wine at the correct temperature and serving it at its ideal temperature to fully appreciate its flavor.

The course also took them on a journey through Moldova’s wine regions, revealing the various soil types that contribute to the unique characteristics of Moldovan wines. They compared sparkling wines like Champagne and Prosecco, learning about their distinct features.

One of the most fascinating lessons involved assessing the quality of a wine simply by examining its cork—a skill that left everyone impressed!

The Club expresses its deepest gratitude to its sponsors, CRC Transport LLC and Viorica Oboroceanu and is eager to continue implementation of the project by organizing other editions of the course.
