يحتفل المغرب والولايات المتحدة هذا العام بمرور 250 عاماً على واحدة من أقدم العلاقات الدبلوماسية في التاريخ الأميركي. لكن العلاقات بين الدول لا تعيش على الذاكرة وحدها. فهي تُقاس بما تنتجه اليوم: أمن، تجارة، استثمارات، نفوذ، وموقع في عالم يعاد تشكيله.

في واشنطن، لا يُقرأ المغرب أولاً من بوابة التاريخ، بل من بوابة الجغرافيا. حليف مستقر على ضفتي الأطلسي والمتوسط، قريب من أوروبا، ومنفتح على إفريقيا، وشريك في ملفات الأمن الإقليمي. أما في الرباط، فلا تزال العلاقة مع الولايات المتحدة تُقرأ أيضاً من زاوية أخرى: ماذا يمكن أن تمنح أقدم صداقة دبلوماسية لأميركا في زمن تتغير فيه موازين القوى؟

في طنجة، ما تزال المفوضية الأميركية تقدم جواباً مختلفاً. داخل المبنى الذي أهداه السلطان مولاي سليمان للولايات المتحدة عام 1821، تقول جينيفر روزامي مانانا، المديرة التنفيذية لمعهد المفوضية الأميركية للدراسات المغربية، إن كثيراً من الزوار الأميركيين يغادرون المكان بالعبارة نفسها: “لم نكن نعرف أن كل هذا بدأ هنا.”

احتفاء بالذكرى التسعمائة لولادة الفيلسوف ابن رشد، يسعدنا في معهد المفوضية الأمريكية للدراسات المغربية أن نستضيف الأستاذين، فؤاد بن أحمد من جامعة القرويين بالرباط، وكاميلو گوميز-ريڤاس من جامعة كاليفورنيا سانتا كروز، والمتواجد في المغرب في إطار منحة فولبرايت البحثية برسم موسم 2025-2026 في لقاء حول تلقي فكر ابن رشد وأثره محليا وعالميا.

The women in our literacy program sewing class created something truly extraordinary: a story quilt filled with iconic American and Moroccan images, memories from their own lives, and scenes inspired by the Legation. Every stitch reflects creativity, pride, friendship, and the connections that unite us across cultures and generations.

We couldn't be more proud of what they created.

Our literacy program participants enjoyed a special end-of-year outing today to watch Myriem Touzani’s magnificent Calle Malaga. On the very street where the film was shot, these lifelong residents of Tangier experienced a story that is itself a love letter to their city. Its themes of loss, identity, aging, parenthood, and love resonated deeply. Kudos to Tangier’s own master filmmaker and sincere thanks to Cinema Alcazar for welcoming us!
