AFCON 2025 was truly an incredible journey filled with valuable experiences and professional growth.
During the tournament, I had the privilege of volunteering with the Media Operations Team, supporting various aspects of media management and coordination. A role that came with tasks but not limited to; assisting with media check-in, distributing and managing media bibs, and providing general support to accredited media professionals.
Having press conferences, working closely with team coaches, MVPs, and media officers to ensure smooth communication and organization. In the Mixed Zone, journalists were coordinated for access flow, and assisted the media officer team in maintaining order and efficiency. Pitch-side photographers were supported to ensure a well-organized and professional working environment. Likewise, the Media Tribune, Stadium Media Centre, and the Main Media Centre (MMC), contribute to the setup and day-to-day operations of the tournamentâs central media hub before and throughout the competition.
This experience strengthened my teamwork, and organizational skills, while providing firsthand exposure to international sports media operations at the highest level. I am truly grateful for the opportunity of Confederation of African Football, TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Conféderation des Etudiants et Stagiaires Africains Etrangers au Maroc, the people of and for everyone I worked with throughout this remarkable journey.
But this was not all lolđ, I was often asked âwhere are you from?â and my response was I am from Liberia. Another question could follow, âWhere is Liberia?â or âWhy isn't your country in the tournament?â Sometimes, jokingly Id say âwe have George Weah, the only Ballon d'Or winner in Africa so we done need AFCONâ just to have it easily going. But on a more serious note, itâs quite humbling and honestly embarrassing to realize that our country is not widely recognized globally beyond a few references: George Weah, Africaâs oldest republic, or the country of Africaâs first female president. This means that they will have to get their phone to Google it to know how factual it is.
I don't know why we are not investing in Football a powerful platform for youth development, national pride, global visibility, and economic growth? Liberia is full of talented young players with immense potential, but for many, that talent fades with age due to a lack of support, structure, and opportunity.
We want to have a country where we can sit in forums with other foreign nationals and point out our achievements and performing youths who might be playing with big clubs and big teams internationally.
Itâs clear that not everyone has to become a politician to make a living or to contribute meaningfully to national development. Our talents, especially in sports, can be a strong engine for growth and national transformation.
Letâs invest in the game. Letâs invest in our youth. Letâs invest in Liberia. âœđ±đ·
