Are you upset about the actions of the ASA leadership? Do you want a more democratic ASA, but are unsure of what to do?

Support S4P’s call to boycott the ASA registration fees and hotel block this August!

To do so:
1. Don’t resign!
2. Skip registration.
3. Work with your section to hold a remote or offsite session.
4. If you have to go, then:
A. Don’t stay in the ASA hotel block.
B. Participate in protest inside the conference.

There is a crisis of democracy in the American Sociological Association. The question of Palestine is at its center, but it extends far beyond that. In response, S4P has called for a boycott of the ASA 2026 annual meeting registration and conference hotels unless the ASA leadership changes course.

On March 12, 2026 ASA President Shelley Correll and ASA Executive Director Heather Washington sent an email to all ASA members informing all of us that they were refusing to put to a vote a member resolution that Sociologists for Palestine submitted in full compliance with ASA bylaws. The resolution called for ASA to endorse an institutional boycott of Israeli academic institutions, in accordance with the broader movement for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel.

Regardless of one’s position on BDS, ASA members can recognize that the ASA leadership’s move undermines ASA’s democratic functioning. It is ASA members, through our almost-entirely unpaid labor, who make the organization run, and we should be able to make decisions collectively as the organization representing US sociologists.

If the ASA leadership continues to refuse to put the member resolution to a vote, then Sociologists for Palestine is calling on ASA members to boycott the 2026 Annual Meeting in New York.
