As a member of the Council of Europe, the Pan African Youth Union is pleased to share this opportunity and encourages eligible young people to apply for the second edition of the HEY Online Training Course on Data Protection, which will be held in French starting on 1 June 2026.

The training course aims at providing young people with a better understanding of data protection, including the associated challenges, risks, and potential solutions, so that they can participate safely and responsibly in the digital space. This course will equip participants with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and tools to enhance their personal and professional online activities. They will also be able to share these skills with other young people, helping to build stronger and more resilient digital practices.

The course is approximately 30 hours, supported by tutors and open to young people aged between 18 and 30 years old from Council of Europe member states (with priority given to North-South Centre member states) as well as from Africa and the Middle East. This course is implemented in French.

The Secretary-General of the Pan-African Youth Union, Bening Ahmed Wiisichong, had a productive meeting with H.E. Jiang Feng, Ambassador of China to the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The discussions focused on strengthening Africa-China cooperation on youth development, with emphasis on youth exchanges, capacity building, entrepreneurship, cultural diplomacy and the establishment of youth-focused infrastructure such as training and innovation centers. The designation of 2026 as the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchange presents a timely opportunity to deepen collaboration and mutual understanding.

This high-level engagement reflects the shared commitment to strengthening Africa-China relations through youth-centered approaches and to advancing a common vision of inclusive growth, mutual learning and sustainable development.

The Pan African Youth Union (PYU) held a high-level engagement with the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 30th April 2026.

Led by 𝐇.𝐄. 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐭𝐞, 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚, the discussion marked an important step forward in strengthening structured and meaningful youth engagement within continental and global policy spaces. Both institutions renewed a shared commitment to moving beyond symbolic participation toward practical collaboration that equips young people with the knowledge, tools and platforms needed to contribute effectively to Africa’s development.

The Secretary-General of the Pan-African Youth Union, Bening Ahmed Wiisichong, outlined key priorities, including strengthening institutional partnerships, enhancing the capacity of National Youth Councils, expanding access to knowledge and research and creating pathways for youth innovation and incubation within United Nations systems. The Secretary-General further emphasized the importance of technical collaboration in the upcoming review of the African Youth Charter as it marks 20 years and broader youth governance frameworks across the continent.

ECA welcomed these proposals and reiterated its readiness to work closely with the PYU through concrete mechanisms, including joint strategy development, access to knowledge products and participation in flagship platforms such as the Africa Business Forum and the Africa Development Impact Forum etc, while emphasizing the need for credible, accountable and results-driven youth leadership. The meeting reflects a shared understanding that youth participation must evolve beyond representation to meaningful contribution, supported by the necessary tools, information and strong institutional backing.

Moving forward, PYU will work closely with ECA to develop a structured framework for collaboration, aimed at delivering practical, high-impact initiatives that respond to the needs and aspirations of young people across the continent.

At the recently concluded Economic Commission for Africa Twelfth Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development ( ) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Kaoutar Moudar, Head of Partnerships and Resources of the Pan African Youth Union, participated at the Plenary high-level round-table panel 2: Driving ambitious and integrated actions for the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063: leveraging the roles of the United Nations system, young people, the private sector, civil society and volunteers.

Ms. Kaoutar Moudar highlighted the strong alignment between the SDGs and Agenda 2063, emphasizing the importance of SDG 17 and the power of multi-stakeholder partnerships. Governments, the private sector, civil society, the UN system and youth must work together as an interconnected value chain to accelerate sustainable impact.

At the recently concluded Economic Commission for Africa Twelfth Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development ( ) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the Pan African Youth Union (PYU) Deputy Secretary-General and Representative of the host country, Kingdom of Morocco, Salah Eddine Bakor, delivered a powerful intervention during the High-Level Panel 3 on Achieving full employment and decent work for all, poverty reduction and social protection in Africa: taking forward the outcomes of the Second World Summit for Social Development.

Speaking on behalf of the Pan-African Youth Union, Mr. Bakor highlighted how PYU is actively working across 54 African countries to translate youth voices into concrete action. This commitment was demonstrated through the recent PYU youth pre-event co-organised with the ECA and partners, which brought together young leaders and senior UN officials in a dynamic intergenerational dialogue focused on accelerating SDG implementation.

He highlighted the Tangier Youth Declaration as an outcome-driven by youth, serving as a practical roadmap for Africa’s transformation. This Declaration emphasises digital sovereignty, youth innovation, future-ready skills and strong accountability mechanisms to ensure that young people are not only consulted but also fully included in decision-making processes.

From Tangier to New York and Addis Ababa, the Pan-African Youth Union continues to connect local realities with global platforms, ensuring that youth perspectives shape policies and actions at the highest levels.

As the Economic Commission for Africa Twelfth Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD-12) concludes today, 30th April 2026, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the Secretary-General of the Pan African Youth Union, Bening Ahmed Wiisichong delivered a clear and compelling message on behalf of Africa’s youth “𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒔; 𝒊𝒕 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒔”.

In his speech during the High-Level Panel 1: Scaling up transformative and coordinated actions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063: The African We Want, of the African Union, 𝐇.𝐄. 𝐖𝐢𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐝 emphasized that young people are seeking a shift from well-articulated commitments to tangible, inclusive and accountable action. Across priority sectors; agriculture, the digital economy, creative industries and regional integration, youth are already demonstrating innovation and resilience. What remains critical is the effective translation of these shared priorities into practical solutions that reach communities at national, rural and grassroots levels.

The Secretary-General stated that trust is central to progress and domestic resource mobilization is ultimately a function of governance and confidence. Africa’s young people are a powerful domestic resource, one that must be meaningfully engaged, empowered and invested in.

The call was therefore not for new rhetoric but for coherence, implementation and impact while scaling subsistence into enterprise, reducing barriers to digital access, investing in creative economies and advancing true regional mobility under frameworks like the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Under the theme “Turning the Tide: Transformative and Coordinated Actions for the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063,” the Forum brings together leaders and stakeholders to advance Africa’s sustainable development priorities. In this context, the Pan African Youth Union continues to play a key role in ensuring that young people are constructively engaged as partners in these processes.
