أحيا العالم اليوم ذكرى الإبادة الجماعية التي ارتُكبت عام 1994 ضد التوتسي في رواندا.
قُتل أكثر من مليون امرأة وطفل ورجل في غضون مئة يوم فقط، في واحدة من أحلك فصول التاريخ البشري.
تُعدّ هذه الفترة المروعة دليلاً قاطعاً على عواقب تجاهل المؤشرات التحذيرية الواضحة، وتطبيع خطاب الكراهية والتمييز والتجريد من الإنسانية.
وقد وجّه الناجون الذين ألقوا كلمات مؤثرة في قاعة الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة اليوم نداءً لنا: قفوا في وجه الكراهية: "نختار الحياة. نختار الأمل."
